Priceline Hotel: Need Hotel in Charlottesville

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a hotel in Charlottesville, VA for 3 nights; April 29-May 2, 2010. I've done some searching around here and have seen past bids for around $45 get 3* hotels, but when I tried PRICELINE today for the same, my bid wasn't accepted.

Could it be possibly because Im bidding far in advance of my desired dates ?

Rates do vary by dates (from day-to-day, even) and by season. If your dates are busier than another user's, they may be more expensive. What would be your budget per night and desired star rating?

Id like to stick to no more than $50 a night, for a 3*. I checked this same time period for last year, and that's where I saw the winning $45 bids for a 3*.

Given your $45 rejection, I would bid $50 your next bid.

While i see a few $45 winning bids, i see many more $50+ winning bids, where as much as $70-$80 were needed for a win.

I'm seeing hotel direct rates ~$100/nite, so at $45 your bids are still less than half the going rate. I'm guessing you're not too far off, but i think $50-$65 has a much higher chance of success than $45 and under.

I think maybe I might wait a few days and retry again. I guess because I did see those previously successful bids for $45, Im a little stubborn :)

How long does Priceline keep bid history for ? I tried the same bid I did earlier (namely, $50 for 3*), and PRICELINE informed me that it was a repeat from earlier on.

If your bid is denied, you have to wait 24 hours to make the same bid again.

Tried again, and went all the way up to $55, but still no luck. Looks like the hotels there still want to get away with charging over $100 per night :)
