I am going to be in San Francisco from Wed 29th September for 4 nights, before heading to Vegas. I am looking for a 4 star hotel in USW or USE. I don't have a fixed budget but obviously, the less

Welcome to BetterBidding!

As far as when to bid, see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

Your budget should be based upon a percentage of the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels. If for example the best rate you're able to find is $200/nite, you would set your maximum bid at some percentage of this figure. Some users want a 50% discount to make an opaque purchase worthwhile and would use $100 as a maximum bid, others want a 25% discount to account for the 'unknown' factor and would set their maximum bid at $150, while others are looking for any discount and would set their maximum bid at any amount that lands them a hotel for under $200.

Give you have plenty of time before your stay, you could bid now looking for a very deep discount (ie- half off conventally booked rooms) and then if still unsuccessful with a few months to go before your stay, adjust your maximum bid upwards to a more likely accepted bid amount.

What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Where would you set your maximum bid for this stay at this time?

Just as an FYI - late September can be difficult. It's a popular time to be in San Francisco and rates are sometime high.

Given that you are early, you have plenty of time to lowball. So first, go for it.

But later, you might want to look at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins for last September to see how high you might have to go, or how close you may have to be between booking and staying.

Go ahead and start early. Good luck.

I don't think $75 is going to be enough for a 4* hotel at this time, but to give it a try...

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* USE and USW...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $75

Any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
