missinAZ Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I will be traveling to San Francisco in July with several girl friends (all in our 40's). We will not be renting a car so would like to stay in an area that is close to a lot of restaurants, shopping, etc. We will also be touring Napa Valley and have been told we would be picked up at the Ferry Building. I wondering what areas to bid on when looking for a hotel on PRICELINE.Thanks for any advice you can throw my way.
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding! :)First, please let us know your dates of travel (so we can research availability), budget per night and how many rooms you require (as well as desired star rating.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
missinAZ Posted January 24, 2010 Author Report Posted January 24, 2010 We will be traveling July 9-12 and will need 2 rooms. Would love 4 Stars (or 3 1/2 if 4 is not available) for under $100. Is that realistic? Thanks.
AaronJB Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 If you are requiring two beds in each room, then using PRICELINE would be an issue, as the service does not guarantee 2 beds - it only guarantees double occupancy (1 bed). HOTWIRE would be the better option, as the service allows you to indicate how many are in each room. Unfortunately, prices are on the high side for these dates. How many adults are going to be in each room? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
Gallus50 Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 As far as good areas to choose, USE, USW/Nob Hill, Embarcadero/FD and SOMA are all pretty central and walkable. I don't care for SOMA - find it noisy and a little close to sketchy areas. Tenderloin borders both USE/USW - be careful where you walk and you'll be fine. I don't recommend FW unless you really want to be in tourist central. It's a bit removed, though you can travel by cable car and F Market trains. (Long wait for cable cars in summer.) Personally, I don't like Civic Center or Japantown or Lombard Street/Marina. Hope this helps.
missinAZ Posted January 24, 2010 Author Report Posted January 24, 2010 There will be 2 or 3 adults in each room. Still waiting for confirmation from one of the girls.
thereuare Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, which could mean you receive a room with only one bed in the room, so if you ultimately need triple occupancy, PRICELINE could be a risk in this situation. If you do need triple occupancy HOTWIRE may still be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy per room.I would wait until you have a final count so you can make an educated decision which service would be best for this stay, based upon your occupancy needs. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. slruud Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 HOTWIRE has what appears to be the Hyatt Embarcadero for $123/nite for 2 rooms/4 adults, and Lastminutetravel.com has what appears to be the same property for $105/nite for the OPs dates. On Lastminutetravel.com, the Hyatt is listed as a 4.5* in the Union Square/Downtown area. I bring up the Lastminute travel deal because I believe it's cancellable for a $25 fee.Just throwing some options the OPs way. Good luck.
missinAZ Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 We FINALLY have a head count for our July 9-12 trip to San Francisco. There will be 4 of us, and we need 2 rooms. Can someone give me an idea where I should start my bidding for a 4-Star in USE or USW? Thank you.
Colfax Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 A number of 4* hotels in downtown SF assign PRICELINE customers to a room with one bed. If that happens are you all okay with sharing a bed? If not HOTWIRE might be the better choice.
missinAZ Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 How do I make sure we will get two beds with HOTWIRE? If I say I want two rooms with two people in each room, won't I still run the risk of only getting one bed per room?
missinAZ Posted February 5, 2010 Author Report Posted February 5, 2010 I went ahead and used HOTWIRE and got the Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf for $76 per night. We are very happy with this. Thanks for everyone's input.
Colfax Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 If you enter "2 adults" per room on Hotwire you still might only get one bed.If you enter "3 adults" per room (even though there will only be 2) you'll get bedding for 3, which means 2 beds. (In rare instance it could be one bed and a pullout sofa but I haven't heard of that happening in USE or USW.)"3 beds" often costs more than "2 beds" on Hotwire but not always. It's probably worth paying a little for the security of knowing you'll have two beds.Check HOTWIRE on "6 adults, 2 rooms" and see if anything interesting pops up. If you post the icons someone can try to ID. (You can also check the Hotwire Hotel List yourself and see if you find any matches.)
Colfax Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 I hadn't yet seen your post about the Holiday Inn when I was writing my last post about bedding. How many adults did you enter when you purchased the Holiday Inn? 2 or 3 per room?Glad you got a hotel you're happy with.
