jdeeze Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 I have been reading around this site for a couple of weeks and I am ready to bid on a hotel. I am trying to go for the Holiday Inn Express or Hilton garden Inn in Chelsea. These are both 2.5 star hotels and the only ones in that area. I have seen a couple of winning bids in the $70 region, I am hoping to go lower or slightly higher. I have 2 questions#1 Rebidding - I think I have gotten the idea of the free rebid, however because these star levels are so low, is it possible to get a free rebid without getting screwed.#2 I will be looking to stay from 2/3/10-2/9/10, however, I will be booking a room for my brother who is leaving on the 2/7/10. Are there any tips for getting back into Chelsea for the last 2 nights we will be there?
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There are no rebid zones available at the 2.5* level in NYC. In terms of the second question, are you looking for 1 room for 2/3-7 and one room for 2/3-9?What would be your budget per night?Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.
jdeeze Posted January 23, 2010 Author Report Posted January 23, 2010 2 rooms for 2/3-71 room for 2/7-9my budget is between $70-90, but I would really love the Chelsea area because it is close to Penn station, easy to go back and forth
thereuare Posted January 24, 2010 Report Posted January 24, 2010 There are two ways you can play this...Scenario 1Bid for 2 rooms 2/3-2/7 and then one additional room for 2/7-2/9... but you may receive a different hotel for the second stay and have to change properties after the 7th.ORScenario 2Bid for 1 room 2/3-2/7 and another room for 2/3-2/9The first scenario ensures that you and your brother are in the same hotel while you're both in town, but you may have to change properties midstay. The second scenario doesn't require a property change, but you and your brother may receive different hotels.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jdeeze Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 I like Scenario 1 better. Here is my problem now, I have identified some properties that I would not mind staying at based off the price and customer reviews. They are the Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea, Holiday Inn Express Chelsea, Ramada New Yorker and the Affinia 50. I would love to do Scenario 1 with those hotels, however I know it is a bidding process so, nothing is guaranteed. I am really looking for a hotel $85 or below if possible, that is clean and close to the action. Some places have been getting negative reviews, so I am afraid of bidding, only to end up in one of those dumps. Tell me what I need to do to ensure some success.
AaronJB Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Keep in mind with some of the reviews (unless they bring up serious issues) that those customers may have paid full price, and expectations may differ when someone is paying $200+ versus much less. If the average regular rate for cities like NYC and Chicago went down, I'd guess overall tripadvisor ratings would improve at least moderately. If you are nervous regarding some properties and reviews, HOTWIRE may an option - while a bit more expensive, you could at least attempt to ID a property that you would be more comfortable with.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Please use separate threads for each leg of your stay. We'll use this thread for your 2/7-2/9 stay... please start a NEW TOPIC for your previous dates. The amenities for the 3.5* for 2/7-2/9 matches previous reports for the The New Yorker Hotel Ramada Plaza so that would be my best guess for this one. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. I had started another topic in the Hotwire section, but no replies as it related to identifying a specific hotel
thereuare Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 I had started another topic in the Hotwire section, but no replies as it related to identifying a specific hotelYour HOTWIRE thread was replied to 2 minutes before this post :)I have merged your 2/7-2/9 thread into this one and all posts for this stay should go in this thread. All posts for your 2/3-2/7 stay should go in your other Hotwire New York thread. Should you ultimatley use PRICELINE for that stay we'll then move the entire thread to that section of the board.Given there are hotels you want to avoid, and one of the HOTWIRE hotels offered is believed to be one of those you want and is within your budget... why not just purchase this leg of your stay thru HOTWIRE?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
