ntc Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 1. Anyone had experiences in booking decent hotels in San Francisco, via Hotwire, with FREE parking or reasonable parking fee? Many hotels in San Francisco have hidden parking fee up to 40-50$ a day.2. Also, from Hotwire, I saw a deal of $69 for 3* hotel @ Japantown - North Civic Center. Is Japantown - North Civic Center good area for family with kids? Is parking there cheaper and safer compared to Fisherman Whalf area? Thanks,First time SF vacationer

Colfax Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 Is Japantown - North Civic Center good area for family with kids?Is parking there cheaper and safer compared to Fisherman Whalf area?I wouldn't say Japantown-Civic Center North is one of the best areas for a family with kids. It's close to some rough areas. Parking might be a little cheaper than in FW but not enough cheaper that it should control your decision. Maybe $25-40 to park in J-CCN vs. $40-50 in FW.Free parking isn't common in SF. SF hotels where parking is free tend to be 1* and 2* motels in marginal areas. Some of the better regarded hotels with free parking include the Chelsea Motor Inn, Coventry Motor Inn, and Castle Inn. You might check rates on those three to get a feel for what a decent place with free parking costs in the city. What kind of budget did you have in mind? Your hotel money will go farther staying near the airport or in Berkeley/Emeryville and you can find free parking there. But something in the city would be much more convenient.
Lukyz Posted January 22, 2010 Report Posted January 22, 2010 i live in sf and would say that civic center is difficult for parkng. japan town is a relatively safe area where there is street parking that may just be metered with street cleaning in certain areas but definately a lot cheaper then parking at the hotels if you don't mind searching for it. civic center is often deselate at night and may make you feel uncomfortable espically with having children wth you espically since it boreders one of the not so hot neighborhoods of san francisco. hope this can be of help!
