grump Posted January 20, 2010 Author Report Posted January 20, 2010 I have been bidding for the past 4 days and have increased by bid from 45 to 50 to 55 to 56I was hoping that I could get the Marina del rey or marina international for 55 or less appreciate any help with strategies or tips
Colfax Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Your bids seem in line with what's been accepted in the past.Have you checked the hotels websites to see if they have rooms available for your dates? Please post the rates you find and we'll have a better basis for making suggestions.
grump Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 Both hotels have rooms available for dates of jan 28-feb2 the prices on hotwire are quoted at $90 a day when I called marina international directly they quoted me aprice of $102,
Colfax Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 This is a four night stay: Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun.On their websites both hotels (which are under common ownership) quote a higher rate for Friday and Saturday nights than for Thursday and Sunday. The four day quotes you're getting are an average of two different rates within your stay. It's possible the hotels have a lower Priceline rate for Thurs & Sun than for Fri & Sat. In that case you'd have to bid the higher weekend rate to get all four nights in one bid. Or maybe the hotels have only given Priceline rooms for Thursday and Sunday. These are some alternatives:1) Keep trying to $56 for a few more days. Maybe you're still bidding early, although your stay is only 8 days away.2) Raise your bid to $60 for all four nights now.3) Break this into pieces if you're willing to switch hotels once. Try $50-55 for Thursday night only, since it's a cheaper night. If accepted try Add a Night for Friday night. If you can't get accepted at $55 for Thursday alone then maybe time to raise your limit or look at alternatives. Please use the board's PRICELINE link and keep us posted!
grump Posted January 21, 2010 Author Report Posted January 21, 2010 thanks for the advice I will try both strategies and I will let you know the result, I just realized the grammys are on that weekend and thought that prices may be starting to climb so i better not leave things to the day of arrival
Colfax Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 The Grammys are Downtown at Staples Center so I don't think they'll have much impact on hotels in Marina del Rey.On further reflection I'm going to take back my third suggestion about splitting your bid, at least for now. Trying to isolate the two cheaper days--Thursday and Sunday--then using Add a Night to win Friday and Saturday will result in four separate Priceline transaction fees. In the end it will be cheaper to bid $60 for all four nights together, even if you're overpaying for Thursday and Sunday by a few dollars.
