couponlaura Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 We sold our house and it is closing on January 11. We are hoping to relocate out of state, but it is not certain yet so we don't want to sign a lease. We are looking for an extended stay type hotel that has laundry facilities and a kitchenette. It would be a bonus if there was a free breakfast or happy hour or something, as well.To begin with, I did a search for January 1 - 31. I figure I can always try again after that initial search to add on more time if we need it.I see a couple on Hotwire that might work, but I am not sure. Does anyone know which properties these might be?Schaumburg Hotel - 2* - $34/night - fitness, laundry, internet, kitchenetteHoffman Estates Hotel - 2* - $62/night - suite, fitness, laundry, high speed, golf nearby, kitchenetteWe'll make sure to use the links on this site if we decide to book. Thanks!
thereuare Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 The Schaumburg property has not yet been identified, but i'm going to speculate that the 2* Hoffman Estates property is the Candlewood Suites, downgraded from the 2.5* rating since last reported to the board. AaronJB may have some ideas on these as well.Since this is an extended stay, you could see if either of these properties appear for the first, or last, nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'. If you're happy with the results you can then go ahead and purchase the remaining nites, if not, make alternate plans for the balance of your stay. Not sure how it would work for your needs, but it also appears there are some hotels in Arlington Heights that fit your criteria as well. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated and let us know how we can be of further help along the way... and congraulations on the sale of your home :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
couponlaura Posted December 9, 2009 Author Report Posted December 9, 2009 Thanks. We thought it would take a year or more, but it was less than 2 months. We really upgraded it a lot and lost a fair amount of money, but at least we are out from under it! As long as the properties are *safe* for our 22 month old, we don't really care which they are. We also need laundry and the kitchenette for obvious reasons. I am going to look at the Arlington Heights area now. Thanks for the tip!By the way, I see you are in Hoboken. We used to live in Jersey City before moving out this way. We always used to go to Louise & Jerry's in Hoboken. Is it still there?
thereuare Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 We always used to go to Louise & Jerry's in Hoboken. Is it still there?Yup!! As are the very same people probably... it's just that type of place :)Not sure how long ago you were here, but it's really changed in the last 5-10 years (as has a lot of Jersey City too... at least along the waterfront). AaronJB Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 If you're unsure about where to move, there are a lot of really nice areas in Wisconsin (such as Madison) - just my 2 cents.Do you need to be in the Hoffman Estates area? I ask because the Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire is $47.20 per night on Orbitz.com, and coupon code WELCOME10 takes another 10% off per night = $42.48. That is a bit far from Hoffman, but Lincolnshire is a REALLY nice North burb with plenty of restaurants and other activities nearby. Again, a bit of a ways North, but great area and just a fantastic (I thought it was a price error and was going to change when I first clicked on it) deal for a nice, well-reviewed Homewood property. Plus, free breakfast and, on some nights, evening reception. Also, Long Grove is nearby Lincolnshire, and that is a lovely, quaint old-fashioned town with the famed Long Grove Confectionery Candy Store. Vernon Hills is also right there, with tons of malls. Please use the site's Orbitz.com link if this idea is of interest.
AaronJB Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Also, the Homewood Lincolnshire gets excellent reviews on Tripadvisor.
couponlaura Posted December 18, 2009 Author Report Posted December 18, 2009 Yup!! As are the very same people probably... it's just that type of place :)Not sure how long ago you were here, but it's really changed in the last 5-10 years (as has a lot of Jersey City too... at least along the waterfront).I lived in Jersey City after it started getting quite nice with all the new construction, etc. near the waterfront.I have been living in IL for 5 years. As far as L & J's, I remember the owner's son used to always tell me how he'd like to take me (and eventually my friend) to Foxwood's for a long weekend. Ha ha. He wore sweatsuits and long gold chains, which was always a very interesting choice. However, I couldn't beat that bar's pours. I complained once at my Bailey's OTR (2 drops of liquor) and after that I started getting a pint glass filled with Bailey's for $6 (or free, if that awesome dresser was there). :)

However, my husband's contract job is in Hoffman Estates, so that commute would be crazy. :) Hopefully he will find something full time soon... and out of this corrupt state!I will look up the hotel you mentioned and I will see if it is close enough to make it work.
AaronJB Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 That Homewood gets excellent reviews and would be a terrific deal, but I think it may be a bit too far out from Hoffman. The Candlewood Suites Wheeling would be $51.49 on Orbitz and coupon code WELCOME10 takes 10% off each night. That hasn't gotten many reviews (newer property, maybe?) but would be a good deal and somewhat closer to Hoffman. Nice area, as well. There's also a Candlewood in Schaumburg - which would be quite close to Hoffman - for the same price on Orbitz.Thank you for using the site's Orbitz, PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links.
couponlaura Posted December 19, 2009 Author Report Posted December 19, 2009 It just occurred to me that I will also need a pet-friendly property. My cat has been barely holding on... but we can't bear to euthanize him when he is in no pain.Soooo, I guess I have to start my search over.
AaronJB Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 Sorry to hear about your cat. :) :) The Candlewood Suites properties I mentioned above appear to both be pet-friendly, according to their websites. In terms of a pet-friendly property though, you would have to book regular rate in order to ensure that amenity.Let us know if you have any other questions.
aglinka Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 With a stay that length, idk if it would work, but have you considered calling the properties you'd be interested in directly and asking for the sales manager?-a
