otottmom Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 I've used this site a few times in the past, but it's been awhile since I've used it for a hotel. I'm looking for some reassurance on my bid strategy before I begin. I'm looking for a 4 star downtown San Diego hotel for one night on 12/11/09. I'm will to pay $100.00, but would be much happier at $80.00. It's been a long time since I've done this so I'd like some help.It looks like there are 15 bid zones in San Diego, 12 of which don't offer 4 star hotels. So, these are my re-bid zones, correct? What do I do from here? Pick one of the 12 zones and start with what offer??? How much do I increase it at each rejection? Should I start at $60.00 and increase by $2.00 at each new re-bid zone. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Please let me know if you have additional advice. Thanks!! I will definitely link to PRICELINE through betterbidding.com once I'm ready.Julie
thereuare Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Yes, you have 12 re-bid zones when bidding 4* in the San Diego Downtown zone.Your bidding strategy seems sound, and based upon your figures above, your bidding would something like this:Select 4* Downtown...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $62, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $64, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $66, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $72, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $74, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $76, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $82, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $84Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. otottmom Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Thanks for your advice. In looking over this site a little better, I'm now wondering if I should be using HOTWIRE instead of PRICELINE for this purchase. I'm only familiar with Priceline, so I'll need some assistance with HOTWIRE. I found a thread that suggests Hotwire is better when more than 2 guests are sharing one room. This reservation is for 3 adults, so obviously we need accommodations to sleep 3. Is it still true that Priceline only guarantees double occupancy??? If so, I can't risk it. I also learned that Hotwire's zones for the downtown San Diego area are better than PL. I would prefer to be in the Gaslamp Quarter over Downtown/Harbor. So, I think that leaves me with HOTWIRE and I am confused how to proceed. Can you help? I'd still like the following:One Room3 Adults4* or higher12/11/09 (one night only)Need to keep it at $100.00 ($80.00 is better)Gaslamp Quarter of San DiegoPlease advise... :)

So, I think that leaves me with HOTWIRE and I am confused how to proceed. Can you help?Sure, we can help you. Start with looking at HOTWIRE for your dates, prefered zone, star rating, and 3adults to see if there is any inventory within your budget. And please list the amenties HOTWIRE associates with the hotel you're looking at and we'll have a look at this and try to ID the property.Yellowdog.Please use boards HOTWIRE link to begin your travel purchases.
otottmom Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 Thank you so much!! Here's what I found on Hotwire:4* hotel in Gaslamp Quarter - Convention CtrFitness CenterSwimmingDiningBusiness CenterHi-Speed Internet AccessThese are the only ammenities they list and no others were added when I pressed 'Continue' and looked at details there. The price is $88.00 (+ $16.30 recovery charge). What do you think??Thanks for your time, I appreciate it!
thereuare Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 The amenities above are common for this area (as well as for many 4* hotels in any city) and matches multiple properties... the Hilton Bayfront, Omni, Westin Gaslamp Quarter, Solamar, Hilton Gaslamp have all been seen with this amenity combination, so without any additional clues by HOTWIRE, any of these would be my best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
