Priceline Hotel: 4* Toronto (Downtown South) Sheraton Hotel

I would LOVE to get the Sheraton but am afraid of getting the Renaissance (ACC hotel). Both the Rennaissance and Sheraton are in the NEW Downtown Toronto SOUTH zones. I am having no joy in getting a bid accepted for Dec 18-19. In August, I got the Marriott Bloor/Yorkville for a mere $56. All newly renovated. I thought August would be harder to get a deal than December.

I will keep trying, but I am only trying in the NORTH zone due to my fear of getting the Renaissance.

Just got back from my stay at the Sheraton.

Very upsetting!!! I have stayed here before and always had great service. This time was different.

Checked in around 4:00pm on the friday. Requested a King, was told that priceline policy is a room that sleeps 2. 1 Double /2 Doubles / Closet with two cots!

I have stayed here 3 times before on priceline and always got a King. Byut wait there's more.

The check in lady then continued to inform me that if I wanted a King room it would cost me an additional $20!!! I have never heard this before at this hotel or any other hotel using priceline. We told them that the last stays we were always able to get a King for free. I even had my points card (i know I don't earn points but my info is easier to pull up that way), I showed them my card and they pulled up the last stays we had there. Sure enough King suite no extra price involved.

Anyway they decied to give us a King parlor suite with a balcony for $20 extra. I'm 6'4" and don't fit in a double.

The room had two portable heater units in it, and the balcony was overlooking a little courtyard (smokers area) with two conference room chairs covered in bird crap and leaves.

The max. rate on the door they could charge was $399!!!!!! For this! And to top things off, in the morning we had no hot water. They sent a guy up, fiddled with the taps, then said and I quote ..."I'll go downstairs and open up the hot water valve more!" What the #$(&^#($ did you mean to tell me you close the hot water valve for the room or the whole hotel overnight!!

I forgot to mention that our room was the furthest from the elevators, down two hallways and stairs (not wheelchair accesssabile). It was faster to use the fire escape stairs at the end of our hallway to get outside. And we used them many times. Scared the crap out of a homeless guy when the door next to him opened up.

All in all the sheraton in toronto was one of my favourites and we always tried to get it. NO MORE!!!! This one is off my list!

Sorry to hear that you had a disappointing stay. :)

An upgrade fee is not unusual these days; while it may not have been a policy at this property before, there are quite a few examples of PRICELINE or HOTWIRE properties that do charge to upgrade beyond the basic bedding arrangement at the property.

The hot water situation was definitely not right though. If you do write to Starwood (Sheraton parent company), I've found them to be pretty responsive in the past.

UPDATE:

Wrote a letter to starwoods regarding our issues, and within 24 hours had a response appologizing for the service /lack of hot water.

Was issued a gift certificate for one night free stay at the hotel.

Starwoods customer service....excellent.

Thank you starwoods.
