mjohare Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I am considering using HOTWIRE to book a hotel for Dec 4th thru Dec 10th 2009 in San Diego.Hotwire is offering a 4* in the Gaslamp Quater - Convention Center with fitness center, pool, restaurant, buisness center, hi speed internet and tennis nearby for $94.00. Judging from previous posts I am hoping this is the Hilton??? Any thoughts??Anybody forsee any problems with booking 2 months in advance using HOTWIRE? My previous use of hotwire has always been for no more than 1 week in advance. And most posts i've seen have been about bookings in the 1 to 2 week range. Also, could there be any problems with booking a 7 night stay with HOTWIRE? Again, in the past i've only booked 1 or 2 nights... and most posts i see are also only involving 1 or 2 nights. Thanks for any help
thereuare Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! The property above does match previous reports for the Hilton Gaslamp so that would be my best guess.I don't see any problem with a one week stay and don't see it as being any different than a stay of fewer nites... what types of issues could you foresee happening vs. a shorter stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mjohare Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 I'm mainly worried about the 2 month advance booking (i.e booking now for December 4-10). 2 months gives the hotel lots of time to sell out their rooms. If they are near capacity they might be tempted to bump someone who booked thru hotwire in favour of someone who will pay full price?? Do you think there is any logic to this or am I just being paranoid?
thereuare Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Could it happen? --> "Yes"Is it likely to happen? --> "No"Contrary to consumer opinion, hotels do not like to 'walk' (terms used for tranfering to another hotel) guests, as it's not good for good-will and is a big headache for them as well. But more importantly, let's assume that your scenario plays out and hotels begin to sell-out and decide to bump guests... at least you have grounds to insist on another hotel of the same quality level at no additional out of pocket expense to you (in theory). If you do nothing and hotels begin to sell-out, the pricing will likely be sky high and prohibitively expensive, so i'd take my chances that "all will be well", as it is the majority of the time. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. mjohare Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 just pulled the trigger on this and did indeed get the Hilton -Gaslamp Quatrer, 401 K street. The price hotwire was offering today had changed to $96So, to confirm... Hotwire offering $96 4* San Diego, Gaslamp - Convention Centre hotel for stay between Dec 4-10 with the amenities listed in my original post turned out to be the Hilton - Gaslamp Quarter, 401 K street.
thereuare Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that you're happy with the results. As i said earlier, I wouldn't expect any problems, but do take a printout of your confirmation with you to the hotel... should you have any problems it woudl be easier to deal with if you have your confirmation in hand. As well, any problems you encounter try to deal with the hotel first, and if they can't be resolved, give HOTWIRE a call, their customer service is actaully quite good.Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
