Colfax Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 I bid this for friends. I've been working on it for a month and finally won something yesterday. They wanted a 4* in any of the four Downtown zones for $100 or less. I've been bidding to $100 every few days with no success. I kept reassuring them "something will come through at the last minute", but with three days to go and no hotel room it was time for Plan B.They preferred lowering quality first over bidding higher for a 4*, and all these failed:$100/3.5* - USE, USW, SOMA, Embarcadero$100/3* - USE, USW, SOMA, Embarcadero, Civic Center$95/2.5* - USE, USW, SOMA, Embarcadero, Civic CenterThen I went back to 4* and started inching up from $100. $115 rejected in all four zones. $120 picked up by Le Meridien, whose best price on 10/3 is $329!Bids were placed through the BetterBidding PRICELINE link.

Colfax Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 I just tried to win another room at Le Meridien and the deal is gone! :) $130/4* rejected in USE, USW, SOMA, and Embarcadero.Le Meridien now showing Sold Out on their website.
Kaskimondo Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 Yeah, it's tough to get a deal for that week. There are so many things going on around town that hotels are selling out and taking advantage with higher rates.
Colfax Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 I thought my friends might get bumped since Le Meridien was sold out. The hotel let them check in at noon though and they were assigned a room on the 20th floor with a good view.I kept bidding for a second room up to the day of arrival. Availability did NOT open up at the last minute. $150/4* and $110/3* were rejected in all four Downtown zones. Ended up getting a second room at the airport, which worked out with a BART connection.
