Hi, I've used this website once before on a vacation in Baltimore with great success, but it's been awhile. I'm hoping for a little help for a last minute trip this weekend to Virginia Beach. I've refreshed my memory on the bidding process on Priceline, however it looks like they've got a new map with winning bids in the area you're interested in? I should ignore this, right? I'm a little worried because there's a big festival in VA Beach this weekend, so I'm wondering if I'll be able to find any deals. I looked at the hotel list, and it's pretty short, consisting of only 2 and 3* hotels. We're looking at staying just Saturday night, the 26th. Thanks for any tips, and I'll get bidding, thru the PRICELINE link above of course!

Welcome back!

What star level are you seeking? Which zones (by PRICELINE name) are you willing to accept? What is your maximum bid?

Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Thanks thereuare! I was looking in Priceline's zone 9, on or close to the beach. They only show 3* and below for this zone, which is fine. The only problem is that I saw on your hotels list that there's a Doubletree that's quite a bit off the beach, so I'm a little worried we'll get stuck there.

Overall I guess I'd settle for 2-3* and up to $100. What do you think? Thanks!

Did you want to first try for a 3* up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 2.5*, then if rejected try for a 2*... or did you want the least expensive 2.5* (or 2*?) for this stay?

I guess my line of thinking was that if I started with the 3* I might get stuck with the Doubletree off the beach, but if I went with the 2 or 2.5*(didn't see any 2.5* on the list) that I would have a better chance getting on the beach. I guess there's always the possibility that they might upgrade me though?

I guess rolling the dice and hoping for one of the other 3* might be worth it? We've got small kids and trudging 10 blocks back and forth to the Doubletree doesn't sound like fun. Thanks for your help!

Could you increase your budget to $115/nite?

HOTWIRE has a 3* Beachfront property for $115/nite. It also shows a Kitchenette icon which would make having snacks, milk, drinks, etc for the kids easier and you wouldn't have to worry about the distance to the beach. Also, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy so there is a chance the hotel you room you recieve only has one bed, but this 3* on HOTWIRE appears when searching 2adults/2chidlren and would ensure sleeping acomodations for everyone you include on your search.

I will point out that it has a Tripadvisor rating of 3.0 which is not that great, but if convenience to the beach is most important for this one nite stay is may suit your needs.

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.

Thanks.

You can read about the similiarities and differences between PRICELINE and HOTWIRE in this I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire thread.

Unfortunately the property above has not yet been identified or reported to the board. One thing to keep in mind is that HOTWIRE can sometimes be a bit more 'generous' in their star ratings, so while this property is rated 3* by HOTWIRE, it could possibly be a 2.5* (or 3*) on PRICELINE. The advantage HOTWIRE offers for this situation is that 1) it indicates it's a beachfront property, and 2) it allows you to book for quad occupancy.

The trade-off is that this hotel may be a .5 star lower than we currenlty believe (or it could fairly rated) and this is probably a little more than you would spend via PRICELINE (but in exchange get the 'known' beachfront location)

I don't have too much insight to this area, but according to the Holiday Inn website, the Sunspree doesn't offer microwaves in the room, so not sure if that would qualify for HOTWIRE's Kitchenette icon, possibly excluding that one as a option from the two you mention above? :)

I went with Hotwire, and will post it on the Hotwire forum shortly. We got the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront, amenitites were: beachfront, fitness center, pool(s), restaurant(s), and kitchenette. I am happy because I thought we were going to be booked at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, which has so-so reviews.

Being on the beach, knowing we'd have 2 beds for us and the kids, and having a kitchenette sealed the deal. Thanks so much for your help!

Amenities were:

-Beachfront

-Fitness Center

-Pool(s)

-Kitchenette

I'm very happy so far, but I haven't gone and looked at the reviews on tripadvisor. I thought I was going to get stuck in the Holiday Inn Sunspree, which might not have been bad, I just think Wyndam has a better name. We shall see.

Thanks much for all your help!
