Hotwire Hotel: 4* San Francisco (USW) Hotel Monaco

Like several other users on this board, I've been bidding for 9/24 - 9/28 for little less than a month. Up to $120.

I noticed looking at online rate calendars for several SOMA hotels that 9/24 seems to be the problem. For instance, Hotwire has a 4.5* at $239+ for 9/24-9/28 but $202 for 9/25 - 9/28.

Perhaps an idea is to bid for three nights, get the hotel, and then add the Thursday night by booking with the hotel directly?

I can get a 3* SOMA hotel for $130 (Renoir) for all four nights, but I think that is still overpriced.

You've bid up to $120 in which zones? And what quality levels?

Can't say which alternative would be cheaper without knowing the hotel's rack rate on 9/24. If the rack rate on 9/24 is $350, for instance, then buying the four nights at $239 would be cheaper.

If you want the 4.5* hotel ID'ed (so that you can check the rack rate) please post the icons you see.

On Priceline the Renoir is a 2* in Civic Center zone. Before paying $130 for the Renoir I'd try some 3* and 2.5* bidding, if you haven't already.

I think I need to wait with bidding until next week. I guess it's no use to bid now with hotels holding out at $200+ levels.

Considering the win by "LoveAaliyah" for 9/26-9/28, I ran some tests.

I can get decent rates for 9/25-9/28, but 9/24 is horrible expensive for some reason. On that day, rates are double of those on the other dates.

Are you willing to split your bid and possibly switch hotels once in order to get the three cheaper days now?

If you win 9/25-9/28 you could then try Add a Night and maybe win 9/24 at the same hotel, but at a higher rate. There's no guarantee that Add a Night will be accepted though.

FINALLY!

After bidding for almost a month on PRICELINE and checking HOTWIRE once in a while, I just caught hotel Monaco on HOTWIRE for $135/night for 9/24-9/28. Regular rates are in excess of $200.
