3660 Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 After reviewing other posts in this forum it lookks like its going to be a tough call to get a better bid price @ priceline for these dates 10/06 - 10/10I was thinking of Union squares at first (for something less than $100 and 3-4 stars range).Any advice on what other nice areas to include.Preferably something witihin reasonable walking distance of FW / downtown and safe to stay.thank you.ALso this is our first time to SF and any other suggestions like rental car or not to rent a car esp with parking fee etc. would be welcome.

thereuare Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 The most frequently bid areas are: USE, USW-Nob Hill (although parts get near the ternderloin which can be a big 'dicey'), SOMA-Moscone Center, Financial-Embarcadero, and Fishermans Wharft... but you should look at the PRICELINE maps and the boundaries of each zone to determine which would work well for your own needs.Plenty of experienced San Francisco travelers and locals on the board so i'll leave it up to them to give their thoughts regarding a rental car (as well as voice their own thoughts on which zones are best)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. 3660 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 I have gone upto $130 for USE and USW,FW,civic center, and financial center while bidding for 4 stars only-I am thinking of switching dates to 10/3-10/7 and would try my luck.Probably prices are up b/c of President cup weekend as mentioned in other posts.
3660 Posted September 19, 2009 Author Report Posted September 19, 2009 so here's what I didchanged the dates to 10/03 - 10/06 and nights to #3(thinking that since president cup starts 10/06 ,may have better chance of getting a good deal)Started bid for 4 * in USE and USW from 90 and went upto $115 but rejectedthen added 3.5* + 4* in USE,USW,FW,CC,marina(no 3.5*listed in marina)and Soma and went upto $130 but still rejected. Now I am thinking of booking from another site (any suggestion which one can be tried) as a back up with option for refund and would keep trying daily in case things change.Any advice !!
slruud Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Lastminutetravel.com has a 4* in the Financial District/Ferry Building area for $137/nite. Not sure how their 4*s rate with Priceline 4*s. They also have 3*s in the US areas for around $100. Good luck.

Good luck.Thannx for the advice .lastminutetravel.com is now offering 4-star hotel in Downtown/Union Square/Nob Hill/San for $118 and $127 for the following dates 10/06 - 10/10.I am leaning towards this price FORNOW since they have $25 penalty 7 days cancellation policy,if less than 7 days they charge you one night rent.
3660 Posted September 20, 2009 Author Report Posted September 20, 2009 Found and reserved Hilton,US @ 147/night thru GTA Hotels.com.Reservation has been confirmed as I received e-mail,upon calling their cust service guests names are not provided to the hotels until 7 days prior to check in date.My only concern is that Hilton already shows SOLD OUT at this location and also told same thing over phone , what if there are last minute surprises and we walk in to the hotel and find out that there is no reservation under my name.this website GTA Hotels.com claims to be BBB certified(and I checked at BBB also) and they are based in Turkey with "providers" in USA.Has any one had experience with these people before?Only good thing (evident) so far is that there id no cancellation fee upto 4 days prior to check in date which will be my backup plan.
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 If you didn't, please note as per our support page that we are an affilaite of GTA Hotels, please check for and use the links in our support page for your hotel direct and online agency purchases.GTA Hotels is a legitimate company, but like most online agencies they don't manage the inventory and mistakes can and do happen, so it's a good idea to confirm with the hotel 7 days prior to your arrival. Based upon the GTA Hotels business model, it is possible for them to have rooms while the hotel website is showing sold-out for your dates. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 I haven't used GTA Hotels, but my understanding is that you do NOT have a confirmed guaranteed reservation. The reservation is tentative and cancellable by the hotel if they're sold out. I've read reports from people who were happpy with the low rates they booked at GTA, but they may not have been booking dates when the hotel was showing sold out.I found this on GTA's website, in the Customer Support Section:Can you guarantee the rooms??Booking your hotel on our website has a number of advantages, not only a price that can't be beaten but the sheer mass of rooms that we have available, (we call them allotments). With such a huge range of rooms that have been set aside for us there really is an extremely high chance that you will be successful in your booking. "Extremely high chance" would be good enough for me most days, but I wouldn't feel entirely comfortable with this when the hotel is showing sold out on its own website.
thereuare Posted September 20, 2009 Report Posted September 20, 2009 That doesn't sound very comforting, but i thought their "instant confirmation" and "available" hotels meant they had the room and were 'done deals'... other listings (i forget what they call them) meant they were going to try to contact the hotel for rooms at their contracted rate. Thanks for the info Colfax. 3660 Posted September 22, 2009 Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 I will keep my fingers crossed. :) As I spoke with their CSR she told me that the hotels have already sold the rooms to them and they will pass on guets information about 7 days or lilltle bit earlier prior to check in date. Will call and check with them again.Any suggestions for a backup?
Colfax Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Hilton is still showing SOLD OUT on their website. I know it's not 7 days before your stay yet but I would think about contacting Hilton now anyhow and asking about your GTA reservation, and specifically whether it's a guaranteed reservation from Hilton's standpoint?
3660 Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 Thanks for the advice Colfax.would check.
