We would like to be in a central area, easy to get to sight seeing, transportation, have things around us to see, it would be our first time in SF.

You need to do some homework to determine the best zones for your particular needs this stay, but the most popular/frequently bid zones are USE, USW, and SOMA... as well as the Fishermans Wharf which is a bit different local than the previous three, although popular with tourists.

Regardless of the zone(s) you select, at the moment i think your $100 budget is going to be a bit of a reach for a 4* hotel this stay.
