Hotwire returned:

3* $56 Business, Internet

2.5* $56 Comp Breakfast, Restaurant, Pool, Ftness

2* $58 Fitness,Pool, Restaurant, Business, Laundry

In this case, location may be more important than hotel itself.

My aunt is in River Edge. I want something with easy access to Route 80 or Route 17 so I can drive to the North Bergen Park & Ride to get into the city.

I prefer not to stay anywhere in Ft. Lee where I could wind up in Bridge traffic trying to get to my hotel. The Teaneck area is about as close to the bridge on the Turnpike as I want to get. Hacknsack is fine. Secaucus/Meadowlands is fine too, but on Hotwire the rates were in the 70's.

Not against trying Priceline, but I thought at $56-$58 on Hotwire might be worth a shot. Seems like most of the posts are for 3* Holiday Inn Saddle Brook (formerly Radisson).

So to clarify, do you need to go to River Edge to visit your aunt as well?

As you know, the Ft Lee/Hackensack area is petty big and you can get caught in some pretty ugly traffic (anywhere in this general area :) ). It sounds to me like the Secaucus/North Bergen and Meadowlands/Rutherford areas would work out quite well for you.

If you need to visit your aunt in River Edge, i would lean towards the Meadowlands/Rutherford zone, if you the stay is more about easy transport into the city, i would lean towards the Secaucus/North Bergen zone.

The primary reason for visiting is our aunt who is ailing.

I gave up on HOTWIRE because I didn't want the chance of getting the Holiday Inn Saddle Brook based upon internet reviews.

Went to Priceline as follows

Secaucus 3.5* $60 Rejected

Added 3* $62 Rejected

Added Meadowlands Zone, increased to $63.

Confirmed at the Courtyard Lyndhurst at $63 x 4 + taxes=$302 for 4 nights.. Internet rate at Courtyard site is $99/night plus taxes.

Like the location, and close to budget.

if you don't want to drive to the North Bergen Park and Ride, you can catch a bus to Manhattan right in front of the Courtyard. However, the frequency of service is not as great as that of the #320 bus available at the Park and Ride. Also, Harolds Deli is across the street in the Quality Inn and has great pastrami, supposedly made at the Carnagie Deli commissary in Moonachie.

I'm originally from Kearny so I know the area very well.

I prefer the frequency of the bus from the Park & Ride. I like to go to the theatre in NY, and the 320 is consistent, every 30 minues, until 1:30AM so I never get stuck needing a taxi.

Harold's is over-rated if you ask me. Yes, they have mile-high sandwiches, but Katz's in the city is more authentic for deli food. Harold's is more like a gimmick to me.

I live in Delray Beach, Florida. What I really look forward to are Diner food, Sabrett's hot Dogs, and good pizza! Mmmmm.

Katz's, again, we're in agreement, but when I'm not near the pastrami I love, I love the pastrami I'm near......so when in Lyndhurst or Edison, I default to Harolds Deli.

There is a new Park and Ride at Exit 15x of the NJ Turnpike, its accessable via County Road in Secaucus....parking is $10 weekdays and $5 on weekends and there is frequent train service from Secaucus Junction. The North Bergen Park and Ride lot sometimes fills up, although its a better value.

Also, when in River Edge, this is a local 'hole in the wall' pizza place that you wouldn't think twice about going into, but they make a great chicken parm hero (make sure they toast the bread a little in the oven :) ) You may even think twice about ordering non-pizza items, but they have a loyal clientele, do a steady business, and the food does turn over:

The Pastrami remark is hilarious! LMAO!

Almost always stop at Pechter's on the way back to the airport. Pick up 2 Ryes, a dozen bagels, and a box of corn muffins. Run them home to Florida and the freezer. For a couple of weeks, I'm in heaven!
