More than likely, it is the Country Inn in Elizabeth, NJ across from the airport.

I find the location much more convenient than the 3* offerings. It has free parking and a bus to NYC across the street.

The only 3* at EWR that is convenient is the Courtyard by Marriott next to the Country Inn. All of the other 3* hotels are along Route 1&9 and not accessible to mass transit. They also all charge for parking and internet.

The 3* hotels also now includes the Hilton in Downtown Newark. Also a charge for parking, but convenient to mass transit.

Hope this helped.

These amenities are a match for those of the Holiday Inn. I would concur with actraveler that the 2.5* is a match for the Country Inn and Suites, but I would not stay here for access to Manhattan as the bus service is infrequent. NJ Transit Routes 111 & 115 The Country Inn is also frequently available through PRICELINE in the Elizabeth zone, but since you don't list the number in your party, there is a slight chance that you could end up with a room with one bed.

good luck!

(for a really cheap and good take out meal nearby, the Brazilian Barbecue on Cole street can't be beat, speaking Portuguese would help, the combo dinner easily feeds two and its about $14)

Dahammer,

With all due respect, while the busses to NYC are not every 20 minutes, they are timed to have the day and evening in the city and come back.

Additionally, there is a bus to Penn Station in Newark which is very frequent, and there is always the hotel shuttle to P3 to catch the train to NYC.

All in all, I think the Country INN (If they get it) beats anything on Route 1&9.

At least in Elizabeth, whether the Country Inn, Courtyard, or Extended Stay, one can walk to the mall (food court and movie theatres), Ruby Tuesday's, or the diner.

AND free parking and internet which the 3* properties all charge for at EWR. When I have a car, I actually drive to the North Bergen Park & Ride and take the NJ Transit 320 which runs up until 1AM out of the city.

Just my humble opinion.

Agreed, the Country Inn and Suites is my "go to" hotel when in Newark. I've stayed there many times through PL, but if you can snag the 3* Residence Inn, you will be spoiled for anything else :) This location is great with the mall and Ruby Tuesday's, but I believe the diner is closed.

Staying in Jersey City is the most convenient for access to NYC, but I prefer Secaucus/North Bergen for cheap accommodations with frequent and 25 minute bus service to NYC. If you stay at the Country Inn, you'll need to be flexible and work around the longer travel time and infrequent Route 111/115 bus schedule and/or the bus schedule to Newark's Penn Station. But, to each his own, that's why they make vanilla and chocolate!!

BTW, here is the correct name and address for the inexpensive take out:

Portugal Barbecue

207 Clark Place

Elizabeth NJ 07206

They make a chicken sandwich that is a whole chicken breast grilled over a charcoal pit in about 10-15 mins, served on a Portugese roll with lettuce and tomato with fries for about $7.00. (however, the best rendition of this sandwich is available at the Rt. 22 Barbecue in Hillside, NJ).

Also while in Elizabeth, check out Santillo's Brick Oven Pizza, its made in a coal fired oven that's been converted to run on gas, and this place is takeout only, but you can buy your pie and take it to a bar up the street.

Santillo's

639 S Broad St

Elizabeth, NJ 07202
