Double_Downon11 Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 FYI, I started bidding from $55 for a hotel in the USE/USW area from Oct 7th till Oct 9th and was just rejected with my 14th bid of $120 USD. I know the President's Cup is on that week but am surprised I haven't had any success yet given all the other previous wins. Any suggestions? For those who live in San Fran, what do you know about the 3.5* Sir Francis Drake hotel?
thereuare Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 With HOTWIRE rates starting at $160 i suspect you're not too far off, but i too see what i believe to be the Francis Drake and at about $80 that may be a good option... especially with the wine reception each nite :)I'm not sure of the location or anything else about this property, but fortunately we have quite a few on the board who are familiar with area and i'm sure they'll be able to give you the low down on this property. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you ultimately decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. Double_Downon11 Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 I tried again last night starting at $110 bidding up to $125 but was rejected think we will switch to the Sir Francis Drake which looks to be available for alot cheaper. Stay tuned.

Double_Downon11 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 I am still looking to book 3 rooms for 2 nights in early October for some extended family in San Fran. I have been bidding up to $125 USD for a 4* in USE or USW the past 3 days with no success. As mentioned before, it looks like they can get the 3.5* Sir Francis Drake in USE for just under $80 USD plus tax for the same dates on HOTWIRE. My question is I think I want to take a chance and bid $60-65 USD for the 3.5* hotel on PRICELINE hopefully getting the Sir Francis for a little bit cheaper. Of course it isn't guaranteed it will be the Sir Francis Drake but it doesn't appear anyone else has won another 3.5* hotel on PRICELINE. I know it's my risk to take but was curious to know if people think it's worth a shot. Thanks as always for your help.
thereuare Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I would consider:-the family who will be using the reservation... would they care about another $10-$20 savings (i understand this adds up on 6 hotel nites, but should you receive something else, would it have been worth the risk for $10-$20/nite)-what are the alternative options in the PRICELINE zone should you not receive the Sir Francis Drake, how would they enjoy their stay should they receive one of those properties?-would the other properties be as convenient for their plansIt really comes down to the expectations of the person utilizing the hotel and how they would handle situations that may not meet their needs (if they're expecting 4* quality and stay at a 3* hotel)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Double_Downon11 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 All terrific points, thanks as usual! I will speak with them and post my results.Appreciate it!
Double_Downon11 Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 I finally got the go ahead from my family members to go ahead and book three rooms for two nights on HOTWIRE for the SFD (hoped) mentioned in the posts above. Unfortunately, I went on to book this afternoon and the hotel is no longer there. Is it possible it will re-appear or should I start looking at other options for them?
thereuare Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Is it possible it will re-appear or should I start looking at other options for them? Both. I'd give it a couple of days to see if it re-appears. As the current 3.5* offering in this zone is more than the $80 we were previously seeing for what was believed to be the Sir Francis Drake, they have either sold the inventory they had alloted to HOTWIRE (and hopefully will add more rooms in the next few days) or started to reach a higher level of occupancy for these dates and pulled down the rooms offered. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 HOTWIRE is offering a 3.5* in USE again, for $99. It looks like the Galleria Park though more than Sir Francis Drake.Boutique, Fitness, Business Center, HighspeedTripAdvisor: 4 out of 5.If you want to take a shot at winning the Francis Drake on PRICELINE I'd suggest bidding from about $80 to $100 for a 3.5* in USE zone. Francis Drake is the only reported 3.5* in the zone but the Marriott Union Square could come up for the first time too.
Double_Downon11 Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 After going back and forth on a few different options, I got the go ahead to increase the bids for San Fran in the USE/USW/SOMA areas. I began bidding from $120 per night in increments of $3-$4 and was finally successful with a bid of $143 USD per night for the dates mentioned above. It was for two nights, three rooms at the 4* Westin San Fran Market. The hotel rates are over $280 plus tax for the same nights! Thanks to everyone for their help and I made sure to use the PRICELINE link.
thereuare Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Congratulations on your success! While this took a little effort, it ultimatley looks like a great deal with some very nice savings! After seeing other hotels come and go, i'm sure some of your family members (and maybe yourself) began to get a bit frustrated, but hopefully they see the savings that can be had and are now 'sold' on PRICELINE and feel the effort was worthwhile.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Hope everyone enjoys their stay.
