mattdedeking Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 I have never used Hotwire before. They have a five star hotel listed for $128 from Jan 28th through Feb 6th.Does anybody know what hotels they consider a 5* hotel? How can I be certain that the room I am staying has a view of the ocean?
thereuare Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 You can't be certain that the room will have a view of the ocean. Rooms are booked "run of house" which means it will assigned at check-in based upon what's available. This is the trade-off for the rock-bottom prices. You can see known hotels and the star ratings associated with them in the MEXICO HOTWIRE HOTEL LISTS.If you're still interested in this property please list all the amenities that Hotwire associates with it and we'll try to help. thereuare Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Best guess is that this is the 5* La Brisas Ixtapa... it's an exact match to the hotels in the above list; but i always preface that there are no guarantees.... there could always be another hotel that Hotwire rates 5* with the same exact amenities and star ratings. If we're correct, i checked two websites and saw rates of $150+ for your nites... so you have to ask yourself if that oceanview room is worth an extra $50+/day! The REVIEWS seem pretty good too. As well, this particular hotel is built into a hill, so it appears (and a blurb i read) states that all rooms have direct ocean views.Since you've never used Hotwire before, one thing you can also do if you want to 'test the waters' and make sure this is in all likelihood the above hotel... do a search for the first nite of your stay and see if this same hotel appears; then do a search for the remainder of your stay and see if the same hotel appears. If so, book the first nite in order to reveal the hotel, if you're pleased immediately book the remaining nites; if not, make alternate plans for the remaining nites of your trip.Any questions feel free to ask.Let us know if you decide to purchase this property or if we can be of further help. whenpigsfly Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 Was in Ixtapa each of the last two years and loved it. The Las Brisas is off the beat and path a ways out of downtown Ixtapa (but a 4$ cab ride there anytime) It is quiter and more subdued than the other resorts and is not on the beach strip of Ixtapa. We looked at a room to scout the possibility of staying there in teh future and while hotwire would callit a 3* I don't think it deserves the luxury title. We went and had a drink in their open air bar and watched a spectacular sunset. All the rooms have this beautiful view. The room we looked at had a hammock on the balcony. If a beach is important to you Las Brisas dosent have much of one to speak of (they tout it as a private beach)We liked the downtown area of Ixtapa as there are amny nice restraunts to choose from. The Las Brisas we woudl choose if we planned on being secluded and taking most of our meals at the hotel. It is the nicest hotel in Ixtapa and is most likely the 5* listed (it came up that way in the vacation package for yor dates)This is a situation where I would not bid Priceline as the likelihood for the radisson coming up for less is very strong. While the Radisson would not be a total disaster it wouldnt be my first choice in Ixtapa. (see tripadvisors reviews)If youve never been to Ixtapa it is overrun by midwesterners in the winter. If you want a more authentic expereince I recommend staying in Zihuatenajo or at least spendign much of your time there. It is a much more authentic experience. There are some very nice places that are much nicer than even Las Brisas but I do not see Zihuatenajo as having inventory for hotwire or priceline
