pjh54 Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Hi All,We're making a trip to NYC this Saturday, August 22 and need to find accommodations for 4 people. Any where in NYC out to the White Plains/Tarrytown area is acceptable. We stayed in White Plains twice at the Hyatt Summerfield Inn. I booked the stay thru Hotels.com. The first time was for 2 days and they upgraded our 1 room suite to a 2 room suite which was sweet!! The second time was a one night stay and the 1 room suite did not have enough sleeping room for 2 adults and 2 kids (15 - 18) The foldout couch just doesn't cut it for two teenagers. We paid $129/night for the suite both times. If we could find 3.5* or better accommodations for the 4 of us where we all can sleep in a bed, ie 2 room suite, 1 room suite with 2 queen beds, 1 room with 2 queen beds, or even 2 rooms next to each other for $129/night, or better, that would be a huge win!! Complimentary breakfast would also be nice as then we can eat before packing up and leaving.Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
dahammer Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Welcome! You may want to check HOTWIRE as you can specify quad occupancy. At the minimum, this could be a room with a double bed and a pull out sofa bed. You can match up the amenities with those reported on the HOTWIRE New York Hotels list as this will help to identify the hotel before purchase.
thereuare Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 or even 2 rooms next to each other for $129/nightI assume you're seeking 129 total for both rooms? (and not per room)Is Jersey City an option? What if the room has two double beds? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. pjh54 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 Thanks for the replies!!I'll check Hotwire as I can specify quad occupancy, although a sofabed will not work. The kids are too big for that.I wasn't thinking of Jersey City, although that may be an option. How long would it take to get to Lower Manhattan (11th St and 6 Ave) on a Sunday morning? And yes, I was thinking $129, before taxes and fees, for BOTH rooms.I'll post a reply after I get the info from HOTWIRE.Thanks again!!
thereuare Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 I'll check Hotwire as I can specify quad occupancy, although a sofabed will not work. The kids are too big for that. That would be the "worst case scenario" although you wouldn't be able to guarantee two 'actual' beds with HOTWIRE... but at least the 'known' 4* Jersey City do have rooms with 2 beds as standard.I wasn't thinking of Jersey City, although that may be an option. How long would it take to get to Lower Manhattan (11th St and 6 Ave) on a Sunday morning?Depends which hotel you get as you would take a different station depending upon whether you were staying at the Hyatt or the Westin. However, i'll note that it wouldn't be too bad, i'd say 20-25 minutes... but if you had an appointment that coudln't be missed or show to catch at a specific time i would leave much more time to account for train connections, wait times, etc. (maybe 50 minutes 'lead time' just to be safe... but the actual trip while on the train(s) won't be nearly that long).Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. pjh54 Posted August 21, 2009 Author Report Posted August 21, 2009 Hi All,Thanks for the feedback!!HOTWIRE didn't work out as I couldn't specify 4 actual beds, as was mentioned in another post. So I'm going to try for 4* to 3.5* up in the White Plains area for 2 rooms, that way it GUARANTEES everyone gets a real bed. After that I'll look at 4* to 3.5* to 4* in the LaGuardia/Flushing area.I think Jersey is out at this point in time, but thanks for the input.BTW, we will be driving down for the weekend. Many thanks!!
thereuare Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 For a one nite stay i'd deal with the two bed vs. pullout sofabed... i'd sacrifice one nite's sleep for the much better location. Also, if looking for a NYC substitute, i'd take Jersey City over White Plains or LGA every time.Let us know whatever you decide to do or if we can be of further help. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. LGA is really not convenient for commuting; many hotels in this zone are not within walking distance to the train stations. From which direction are you driving?
