Hello everyone, I am taking a vacation with my wife and two small children in Sept. My kids are 4 and 5. Right now, we will be landing in LAX late on 9/17. I'm looking for someplace to stay for a few days, preferably nearby a beach are. My wife loves the beach and the kids do too. However, we'll also be moving all over LA, so we're not set in stone about where we stay. On Friday I have business meetings way up in Westlake Village, and on Sat. we'll be going to the UCLA-KSU football game in Pasadena. On Monday we'll leave for a Carnival cruise out of Long Beach. As you can see, we'll be all around. We may take in an amusement park, but likely will not do the Disney thing. That is still up in the air.

I've had great luck with PRICELINE, but I usually just pick an area, and most of the time I have a little better idea of the area of a city I want to stay in. For us, the reasonable suites work great because they are kid-friendly, have breakfast, free parking, etc. (La Quinta, Residence Inn, Courtyard, etc.).

Does anyone have any ideas of a strategy? I've been bidding $46 for a spot in Manhattan Beach, but so far, no luck.

Welcome to the site. :)

What are the exact dates of travel? Are you looking to stay in one spot and then travel around from there or are you interested in moving hotels during your stay? What would be your max budget per night?

Additionally, in terms of PRICELINE, there's no guarantee of 2 beds, so HOTWIRE may be a better choice.

Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links when you are ready to book.

Hello, My dates of stay will be 9/17-9/21. We'd prefer to stay in one spot. Since we'll be all over, in order for us to change locations to be near something, we'd really need to change hotels daily. Also, with two little ones, checking out can be a challenge because sometimes we get moving late. That's why I was thinking something like Manhattan Beaches....but I am VERY flexible.

I'd like to stay as cheap as possible, hopefully around $50 per (not including taxes/fees/etc). I understand the risks using Priceline (only 1 bed) but honestly I've never had a problem. I use priceline about 10X's per year and I can think of 2-3 times I've gotten a room with only one bed, and then I was by myself. I've always gotten better deals on PRICELINE.

Thanks for your help. I just went down to a 2* and up to $50 and won the TownePlace Suites Los Angeles LAX/Manhattan Beach for 4 nights.

On the surface, this looks like a winner for the family. Thanks.

Depsite the hotel's 2* rating (which I think it low for this chain) this seems like a good outcome for you, as you got almost everything you wanted. You're near the airport and a short drive from the beach. The hotel has kitchenettes, free parking, and a hideaway sofa for the kids to sleep on. It's a long drive to Westlake Village, but that would have been true whichever hotel you won. Enjoy!
