Sara Sue Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 We will need a room from 8/1 -8/3 in the Manhattan Beach/Redondo area. Can you provide me a bidding strategy? Then from 8/3 to 8/5 we will be heading to Disneyland and need a strategy for that timeline as well. Thanks!
Colfax Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Do you know what quality level you want to bid? Many bidders like the 3* Residence Inn in Manhattan Beach because of its free parking, free breakfast, plus all the rooms are suites. Are you looking for a hotel like that or do you prefer a 3.5* full service hotel like the Crowne Plaza or Marriott?Lately most 3* bids in the Manhattan/Redondo get upgraded to 3.5*. But if 3* is what you want you should bid for that so you'll have a chance.I don't know if it matters to you but all the 2.5* and 3* in this zone have free parking, and the 3.5* charge.p.s. Please start a separate thread in the Orange County section for your Disneyland dates.
Sara Sue Posted July 25, 2009 Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 A 3* is fine, in fact the Residence looks great. Always love free parking and breakfast too. What would be my best strategy for a bidding?
Colfax Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 I suggest $39 for a 3* in Redondo/Manhattan.Add Santa Monica at $40.Add Lawndale (free rebid) at $42.Santa Monica isn't really a free rebid zone because there are 3* hotels in Santa Monica. Theoretically you could win a 3* hotel in Santa Monica bidding this way. But a 3* in Santa Monica always costs more than $40's so in this situation you can use Santa Monica as if it was a free rebid zone.I think $42 might be a couple dollars shy but this is a good place to start. Please start your bid with this PRICELINE link. Good luck!
Sara Sue Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Bid $42 Redondo/Manhattan- RejectedBid 47- added Santa MonicaBid 52- added LawndaleNo luck. Further suggestions please?
thereuare Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 With HOTWIRE showing a 3* property in this zone at $144/nite i think you may be somewhat far off... what is your maximum bid for this stay? What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 2.5* is a good bet in the Manhattan/Redondo zone too. All the reported 2.5* hotels (Best Western, Hawthorne Suites, Springhill Suites, Summerfield Suites) get decent reviews and have free parking. If you want to try the 2.5* route (rather than bidding higher than $52 for a 3* or 3.5*) I suggest this to start:Bid $40 for a 2.5* in Redondo/Manhattan.Add Lawndale (free rebid) at $43.If rejected wait 24 hours and try again at $45 and $48.When bidding 2.5* I do NOT recommend adding Santa Monica like I did when you were bidding 3*, as I think you might get a 2.5* in Santa Monica zone that way.Good luck!
Sara Sue Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Originally bid $42- deniedCounter offer +12 for $54.As my time is running out and I'm tired of working on this :) I went for it. Received the Anaheim Hilton. Mixed reviews on TripAdvisor but location is great and my son will love how enormous it is. Dates- 8/1~8/4
