DFW25FLY Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Overall pleased with my deal on this one. I had stayed here for 3 nights back in January and got it for $45/night. However, $50 is the absolute cheapest I could get it this time around. Cheapest rate on any other website is $159/nt plus tax as a prepay. That said, my savings is about $360.00 over the course of 3nts with tax added in. Can't beat that! This definitely isn't my favorite hotel in the world, especially because of the $18/nt to park (maybe we can park at the Best Western across the street if there are plenty of open spots??). However, you just can't beat it at $50 a night. A real steal in my book.As I am not a huge fan of this property, I was trying to avoid it and hoping for either the Residence Inn or Best Western Sunrise Inn. Also was hoping for Springhill Suites but I figured that was a long shot since I never hear of anyone scoring on that property. Here was my bidding strategy:1) Bid $42.00 3-star Redondo/Manhattan Beach -- Rejected2) re-bid adding lawndale 3-star for $45.00 night (free bid as it only goes up to 2 star in this zone) -- Rejected3) re-bid adding santa monica/marina del rey for $49.00 night -- Rejected (almost a free rebid cus nothing ever goes through this cheap in that zone)4) re-bid adding 2.5 star and up for all zones for $50.00 night -- Upgraded to 3.5 star and AcceptedSo, seems I got it for as absolutely cheap as I could. Like I said earlier, definitely not the best or nicest hotel around, but for $50 it's greeat!Total with tax for the 3nts: $180.12
Colfax Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Congratulations, DFW25FLY, and thanks for sharing your bid history. $50 is a great price for this hotel. Interesting that $50 was enough for a 3.5* but not for a 2.5*. 3) re-bid adding santa monica/marina del rey for $49.00 night -- Rejected (almost a free rebid cus nothing ever goes through this cheap in that zone)It sounds like you might have seen my comment in another thread where I suggested that someone bidding for a 3* in Redondo could use Santa Monica as if it was a free rebid, up to $43. There have been a few 3* Santa Monica wins in the $50s--not recently--but still there's a small risk of winning a hotel in Santa Monica if you bid that way. In the other thread I was being more "aggresive" because the poster had less than a week before her stay, and I only suggested to $43 then, not $49. A bidder shouldn't take a risk like that at all unless they're actually willing to stay in Santa Monica.Anyhow it worked out for you. Have a good stay!
