Rawson819 Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Since I had the same criteria as sbastick in the Priceline Bidding / Help Strategy thread, I tried the recommended bidding strategy:Select 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TS and re-bid zone5...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $133, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $138, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $140Having no luck with that, I closed the browser, reopened (of course using the Better Bidding PRICELINE link), and next tried:3.5* MTE, MTW, CPS, and TSBid $110 - rejected, added re-bid zone 1Bid $115 - rejected, added re-bid zone 2Bid $120 - rejected, added re-bid zone 3Bid $125 - accepted Roosevelt HotelNow the Roosevelt wasn't my first choice of hotels, but given its location and the price paid, I'm sure it will serve our first trip to NYC quite well.Out of curiosity, did I play the switch from 4* to 3.5* correctly, or is there something I could/should have done differently?
yellowdog Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) Let's hope that the Rooswelt will serve your purpose. Have a nice stay.Yellowdog.PS. Can you please follow-up your previous Boston post. Thanx in advance.PS 2. Beware that zones, ratings etc can change at anytime if you copy the strategy from other threads. This is a good link: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained
Rawson819 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 PS. Can you please follow-up your previous Boston post. Thanx in advance.Sure, but how so?PS 2. Beware that zones, ratings etc can change at anytime if you copy the strategy from other threads. This is a good link:Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedIf I would have started a separate thread requesting bid assistance, how would the recommended strategy have differed if only the dates were different - a higher initial starting bid?
AaronJB Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 In terms of following up, please click on the link to the Boston post and then post in that thread what you ultimately decided to do. With the lowest rate on the Roosevelt hotel website being $219, this would certainly seem like a good deal to me, and it's in a superb location in MTE.
thereuare Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 If I would have started a separate thread requesting bid assistance, how would the recommended strategy have differed if only the dates were different - a higher initial starting bid? That's one possibility, but the bigger 'risk' in following somebody elses strategy is that if their rates are high and yours are low, their strategy may start with a higher bid than would be recommended for your own dates, which if you blindly following can results in an overbid for your own stay. Rawson819 Posted July 23, 2009 Author Report Posted July 23, 2009 Hadn't realized I never posted which hotel we won. It's now updated.
thereuare Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 Thanks for the follow-up!.Near the Roosevelt is my often recommended breakfast spot of Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city... makes for an inexpensive, but good, breakfast among locals.Enjoy your stay.
