I saw a similar thread for later in the year sugesting the Marriott and Se San Diego - any idea if these are likely to be the same?

To show i'm not asking for help without looking myself...

Based on the info on this site the 4.5 would not be the Westgate or the US Grant as neither show a pool, so the Se San Diego looks likely.

The 4* could be loads, but not the Marriott Gaslamp as it doesnt have a pool, the Manchester Hyatt comes under Harbor Bay I think. But could be: 4* Hotel Solamar, 4* Marriott Gaslamp, 4* Omni San Diego, 4* Westin Gaslamp Quarter

I'll use the HOTWIRE link and when i get the courage to book i'll list what i got...the hidden hotel name idea is a great one, especially with sites like this - but perhaps i need to be more decisive!

The 4.5* would be the SE San Diego.

The 4* gaslamp/convention would be a likely match for the Westin Gaslamp.

I can confirm that the 4.5* hotel listed above was the Se San Diego which I have booked for 16% saving on the normal price.
