Need help with Minivan rental in Sacramento

I am interested in renting a minivan for 8/8-8/13. Can be from the airport or in the city.

The prices are extremely high. The lowest I have seen was around $ 550 per week. I would like to get it for under $ 35 a day. Is that realistic or possible?

It's not clear from your San Juan Hotel thread if you used PRICELINE, HOTWIRE, or booked direct... can you please add another reply to that thread so we can update the thread accordingly.

I'm doubtful that $35 will be enough for a minivan on this rental, but what is the daily rate of the $550/wk offer before taxes and fees? Where are you seeing the $550/week rate as a quick look at prices i'm seeing rates higher than that.

I don't recall where I saw that rate. Everything I have seen recently has been more in the $ 700 + range.

As of today, I can find a weekly rate of $581.49 for a week plus taxes of 50.88.

Since your rental is 5 days, does that mean your daily rate is $116/day ($581 / 5 days)?? :)

It was not quoted as a daily rate, but as a weekly rate for the 5 days . Divided out the daily rate would be $ 116 per day.

That seems crazy expensive, imo.

Any chance a midsize SUV would work for needs?? Other than PRICELINE, do you have any other options other than paying $630 for the 5 day rental?

The lowest minivan rate I can find, taxes included, is $632 from Enterprise.

At SF and Oakland airports the minivan rates are even higher than that---over $700/week!

Strangely enough for these dates you can rent TWO fullsize cars in Sacramento for significantly less than one minivan. A fullsize from Budget is $208, all inclusive, for example.

It's an odd way to do things, admittedly, but would two fullsize cars work for you? If so you could reserve them and cancel later if minivan prices come down.

Doing a family trip to disneyland. There will be 5 in the car plus a puppy on the way home. It is a 8 hour car ride.

We own a Sienna, so that is our option. Though with 150,000 miles on it and a few recent repairs we thought we might want to leave the Sienna at home and give it a rest.

For $600, it looks like the Sienna will be making the trip and we will all be riding with fingers crossed.

In this economy - for those prices - I can't imagine they are renting too many of these cars.
