If the Fisherman's Wharf zone works best for your plans then i would continue to bid it higher, but if you start to reach a point where you feel prices are getting too high, you may want to consider the Downtown zones as rates there have been fairly low recently, and do to a greater number of hotels, and competition, you may find a good/better deal there (assuming this works as well for your needs)

Again used your PRICELINE link to begin my bidding.

Bid $80, $85 and $90. Will retreat for a week and start at $60 again a few days before departure. I appreciate your advice on Downtown - I had considered it before, and will certainly resort to that if I'm up to the $90 level without success again next week.

Is 3* in Fisherman's Wharf an option? The 3* Holiday Inn and 3* Best Western Tuscan are very near the 3.5* hotels and both get pretty good reviews. The Tuscan Inn is actually a Kimpton boutique property. If you try the 3* route I suggest starting around $60. Good luck!
