sslorp Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 New to betterbidding ... love it! I see today Priceline has 4* Arlington hotel descr 'fitness, restaurant, business, internet, spa' for $155. My guess is this is Arlington Palomar which is my goal. After reviewing the betterbidding website I'm finding users that have used Priceline and won the Palomar by requesting 4* Arlington. It looks like Priceline and Hotwire only use three 4* hotels in Arlington area. Palomar, Westin Arlington Gateway and Hyatt Arlington. For a six night stay I would like a better rate than $155. I am going to try PRICELINE hoping to get the Arlington Palomar for 9/9-9/15 but would be satisfied with the Arlington Weston or Hyatt. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
thereuare Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Keep in mind that the hotel lists are only properties that have been reported to the board, everyday we add new hotels, upgrade/downgrade star ratings, etc, so there could be other 4* properties than the ones you have mentioned. You need to be willing to accept any 4* hotel (or higher) in the zone(s) that you bid. When bidding for a 4* hotel in Arlington you have FIVE re-bid zones. Priceline Re-Bidding Explained(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Arlington...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Arlington and re-bid zone4...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Arlington and re-bid zone5...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Arlington and re-bid zone4 and re-bid zone5...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. sslorp Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 I have been bidding for a few weeks now and my latest bid was for 4* Arlington @ $116.00 which was denied. I see others have been successful in the 80-90 dollar range for fewer nights and also bidding within four weeks of their travel dates. Any suggestions based upon what you see for success? I am not sure if a six night stay is driving hotels to want a higher rate or maybe I'm trying for so many nights too soon. Thanks for your assistance.
thereuare Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Taking this $75/nite win of the Arlington Palmomar and checking rates for the dates won, hotel direct prices are $239/nite... checking for your dates rates are $299/nite, implying that you will ikely need a higher bid than the previous bidding. Although you are bididng more than the previous bidding, the point is that you're not making an apples-to-apples comparison when looking at the previous $75 win.Is $116 your maximum bid at this time? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Sutter Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 I thought it was just HOTWIRE that gave a list of features (but no bidding), and PRICELINE that allowed bidding (but did not list features, at least when bidding).
sslorp Posted August 6, 2009 Author Report Posted August 6, 2009 Success! I tried yesterday with $121 and failed. Today I saw hotel rates were getting higher and decided to get creative. I checked prices on Hotwire and Priceline for 5 days (instead of 6) 9/9 thru 9/14 and the rates dropped considerable. My plan is to stay in Arlington 5 nights, then on night 6 stay near the airport (Dulles) to miss the AM traffic. I won 4* Arlington Area The Westin Arlington Gateway - - 9/9 thru 9/14 @ $96 per night(hotel website shows $240 per night)I won 4* Dulles Airport AreaThe Westin Reston Heights - - 9/14 @ $96 per night(hotel website shows $259 per night)I used the PRICELINE link from this forum - - thanks for all of your help! I would only suggest to those reviewing betterbidding to get creative like I did on fewer nights in one area and a hotel close to airport for the final night if you are traveling by air. :-) Life is good!
thereuare Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Sullter,I thought it was just HOTWIRE that gave a list of features (but no bidding), and PRICELINE that allowed bidding (but did not list features, at least when bidding). This is correct, i'm sure the above was just a typo.sslorp,Congratulations on your success! Please stick with the board format of only one win per thread so that we can reflect all the information of each win in the topic title as well as enable each to have their own link in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. We'll use this thread to reflect you first purchease in Arlington, please start a NEW TOPIC for your Dulles win.Glad to see the split worked out well for you and this works well for your plans.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
