dahammer Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 what is your maximum bid per night and the minimum star rating, we wouldn't want to suggest a strategy that is more than your budget.
cmcadran Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 what is your maximum bid per night and the minimum star rating, we wouldn't want to suggest a strategy that is more than your budget. My maximum big is $150 and 4-stars. what do you suggest?
cmcadran Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 HelloMy wife and I are heading to NYC July 27th and 28th and we are looking for a 4-star hotel in the times square, or the surrounding area. I have no clue ow to bid and I am worried I am going to get a hotel I do not want. Can someone please help me and teach me how to bid. The max I want to pay per night is $140..Is it possible to get a 4-star hotel for under $140? Is it better to have a higher max inorder to get a better hotel? Please help..I am ready to bid today!ThanksChrisNorth Carolina
AaronJB Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Do not bid higher in order to secure a particular hotel, as chances are you will simply end up bidding more than you needed to for the hotel you would have gotten had you bid cheaper. You may feel more comfortable with HOTWIRE, where at least you can make an educated guess as to what's showing. There is a 3.5* in the Times Square/Theater District zone on HOTWIRE with the amenities: fitness, business, restaurant, internet for $129 (the price you see may vary.) That would be a likely match for the well-reviewed Millennium Broadway. On the detail page for this listing on HOTWIRE, there is a 4/5 tripadvisor rating, so at least you can feel comfortable knowing that you're getting something well-reviewed.If you are interested in bidding instead, please note the exact PRICELINE areas you would be interested in staying. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
cmcadran Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 AaronThank you for your response. I really don't care what area I am in. I'm not too familiar with the time square area, but it would be a lot of fun staying there. We are looking for a bunch of bars to hit up while we are there. Is the village a better option?Either way, I am curious to try PRICELINE, but I don't know what I should start my bid at. I am still interested in a 4*. Any help?
thereuare Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Assuming you are only willing to accept MTE or TS, i would bid as follows:At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE and TS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and TS and re-bid zone5...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. cmcadran Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 I put in three bid and they were all rejected. What am I doing wrong? Here is my summary:Check in: Monday July 27thCheck Out: Wednesday July 29First attempt: $100 bid on Midtown East 4-star...deniedSecond attempt: $110 bid on Midtown East 4-star....deniedThird attempt: $125 bid on Midtown East 4-star...deniedWe are set on Midtown East 4-star. But I do not want to go over $125...Can anyone help me and tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!Chris
thereuare Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. For your bids above, are you getting a rejection notice "we can't find a hotel willing to accept your offer price..." OR are you being told that it's a duplcate bid? What happened to your $150/nite maximum bid? Do you now only want to bid the MTE zone? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
cmcadran Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 I think two were rejections and one was duplicate. After seeing that the taxes and services were $50, i am lowering my asking to $125 max a night...i am not familar with the re-zoning bid..And i read everything about it.......What to do??? I am only looking in the MTe right now..
thereuare Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 First things first...Regarding re-bidding (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained), is it the concept that you don't understand OR how to determin your re-bid zones?Secondly, what is your reasoning behind only bidding the MTE zone? This will limit the number of hotels eligible to accept your winning bid, and NYC is so compact and the midtown zones are so close together, that any of these zones usually work out fine for the average user. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cmcadran Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 I don't think I understand the concept...Actually I don't understand both....We have not reasons to stay only in MTE..I guess we liked the 4* hotels in the MTE area...So I guess we should open it up to MTW and TS area as well....But tell me more about re-bidding?ThanksChris
cmcadran Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 Ok after re-bidding with zone after zone that didn't have a 4*, I stopped bidding at $140. so i guess MTE wants more for their hotels. so i added time square and MTW and got an offer for The Sherton Hotel and towers for $135 total. We are pleased but we would have love to stay at a non "chain" hotel. Kind of bummed...Oh well
thereuare Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Sorry to hear you're disappointed with the results, but most of the hotels PRICELINE deals with at the 4* level in midtown are 'chain' properties, and this a $100+ savings over a conventional booking, so i don't think there's too much to be disappointed in. As well, this location is very good for getting around the city, and there are plenty of 'local' bars and restaurants if you head one avenue west to Hell's Kitchen. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
