Hi there, Im new with this, I would like you to help me with my research, we are looking for a good hotel (not expensive) we are traveling to Oakland - SF Area on July 20 to July 26, (me, my dad (65) and my brother) made my search on HOTWIRE, and I saw this hotel (is good price for my money), as I was reading on other posts, I must post the amenities, here:

3-star hotel in Oakland Intl Airport OAK

This hotel features the following amenities:

Airport Shuttle

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

High-speed Internet Access

What hotel do you think this is?

Does anyone can help me? even, can you tell me of a better hotel if this is not a good one (in a better place for a Tourist visit of san fran).

I can pay NO MORE than 90 dlls. for day (3 adults occupancy).

Sorry for my english... big hi from MEXICO :)

Hola Ozy -

Really can't recommend staying near Oakland Airport if you're there to see SF. Big hassles, no payoff. Not a nice area to stay either. For your dates, HOTWIRE doesn't have much in SF, through there is a 2* in Marina/Cow Hollow that is in your price range. You probably can't try PRICELINE if you have 3 people - you might not get enough beds.

There are some other options, though. Hotwire Travel Ticker has the Hotel Kabuki in Japantown for $70 weeknight, $89 weekend. There are also some good choices just a bit more than you want to spend - at $99 or $109.

Travelzoo.com is similar, with Hotel California for about $109 a night.

Expedia and Orbitz both have specials on the Cathedral Hill Hotel for about $80 a night. It's got a decent location near the California cable car line.

The best option I came up with is Grosvenor House Suites on Nob Hill. If you book for a week - one night more than you want - you can get a 2 bd studio suite for an average of $100 a night. And if you book online, they'll give you a $25 rebate for each night, bringing you below your total. I checked - there are rooms available.

That's all I've got. Now I've got to get back to work!

THANKS a lot for your advice...

I was thinking in Oakland (but we dont know NOTHING about Oakland-SF area), that is a good advice, not to stay in oakland IF WE DO want to know something about SF.

Ok...

Thanks for the Grosvenor House Suites advice, I will be looking for it.. from now, and until I read something else.

My plane is going to be in Oakland Airport at 11:00PM, so, Im a little concerned about the way we can travel to a "far" hotel from the airport.

I will be glad to receive all the information I can from you pals.

You may want to stay at the Oakland Airport the first night and head into San Francisco the next day. (I often stay at the airport the first night.) That way, you'll save some $$ and have more for the latter part of your visit.

The reason staying in Oakland is a pain is that the BART station is not very convenient. From the airport, and from all hotels, you need a shuttle to get there. BART is the best way to get back and forth, but it isn't cheap. If you're really there to see San Francisco, you'll save time and money by just being there. In SF, you can walk to many places, as long as you have sturdy legs. Plus it's way, way, way prettier.

Since hotels seem a bit tighter than usual, I wouldn't wait to long to find something and book it.

Thanks...

I have now thinking in that... first night something close to oakland airport, next nights San Francisco... can anyone tell me the name of any good area in San Francisco to be in? so, we can walk to some places, take BART or cable... and please, tell me the name of the areas WE MUST be OUT of it?

We want to go to the ball game (athletics) on July 22... any advices you can tell me?

Thanks a lot...

Me again... was reading the kabuki offers, it is ok, 70 and 89 (last night)... plus taxes ok...

but, just TWO adults... the system does not allow 3 adults...

My question is....

It is possible to me reserve a 2 adults room, and be 3 adults in there? I have heard it is not legal, but... but... everybody does that!

I mean, here in Mexico... not upthere...

Any advices? I can buy some sleeping bag at the walmart... and sleep there... not big deal...

any advices will be welcomed.

Thanks.

It's a risk that you have to decide if you're willing to take? I'm not familiar with this porperty, but what if it has a small lobby and you get a front desk clerk that does care?

I'd go for the 3-star hotel in Union Square West for $79/night on HOTWIRE. Just put down two people - they won't know or care that there are 3 of you as long as you are quiet and respectful of others.

Whether the desk staff knows or cares there are three people in the room isn't the main issue. The issue is that searching Hotwire on "2 adults" only guarantees a room with one bed, and it could be one double bed...not a king or queen.

Many reports are posted here of Union Square hotels assigning Priceline/Hotwire guests to one-bed rooms and charging a fee for a second bed, which is considered an upgrade, typically $25-35/night. And you could win a hotel that doesn't have two-bed rooms available even if you're willing to pay extra.

To guarantee two beds I'd suggest searching HOTWIRE on "3 adults". Or book a hotel with two beds conventionally. Or book two rooms on PRICELINE. It's possible you can win two 3* rooms, or more likely two 2.5* rooms, for $45 apiece on Priceline, still staying under your $90/night limit.

When I searched, I found the 3* hotel for 2 adults, but not for 3. This makes me think they would only have 1-bed rooms available.

I'd follow Colfax's advice, or check into a few of suggestions I made previously. (Also perhaps Gaylord Suites Hotel.)
