Hi Gang,

New to bidding. I am going to be in the Oakland area between July 24-Jul 31 for the bar exam. It is very important that I get a room as close to the Oakland Marriot City Center as possible. I don't expect to get a room there, but I must be very close to this area. I ran a 3* search on Hotwire in the Oakland-Alameda area using the address of Marriott City Center. I got:

$79 3 Star w/in 3.5 miles of Marriott City Center

Smoke Free Rooms

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

Laundry Facilities

High Speed Internet

Any ideas what it could be? I don't drive, so proximity is very important to me. I don't want to get stuck in Alameda. I also want some general level of comfort because this will be a very stressful time. Also, should I be alarmed about possible cancellation by hotwire or the hotel? Is this common? I would appreciate any response. I would like to book very soon. Thanks in advance.

From looking at the VP, this is almost certainly a match for the Waterfront Plaza hotel. The amenities match exactly, and there aren't really that many hotels in Oakland.

So if that is the case, you can look at Yahoo maps and decide if that is close enough for you. To me, it looks like it's about 10-12 blocks away from Mariott CC. So it is walkable (you have to walk under 880, I think). If it's not close enough, you may want to book the MCC or the Courtyard by Marriott downtown by conventional methods.
