musinggrai Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 I first tried a week ago for a 3 star in Boston Quincy area for $115.I then saw the forum topic here where a bidder started at $90 for a 4 star and bid up and was successful at $105.I tried this over the past few days but was still unsuccessful at $110.I dug deeper into this site and now understand that I can place multiple bids within 24 hours by adding a zone(s) that has only lower stars available and upping the bid $5 at a time.My question is this: Will priceline "remember" my bidding history and hold out on me because of my (first) original offer? Or can I try each day restarting a bid at $90, upping it, and achieve a result?
GM Mike Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 musinggrai, welcome to BetterBidding!Priceline will keep a record of your bidding activity but after 24 hours it has no impact on your ability to win at any particular price. For example, if you bid $80, $85, $90 using rebids, then wait 24 hours after the last rebid, you can begin again at $80, if you wish.Note that you do not have to raise each bid by $5. As low as $1 is fine. You can also go lower in *-level within 24 hours. You can not, however, go back up. So, for example, if you start at 3* and are rejected, you must wait 24 hours before going back up to 4*. If you start at 4* and go through multiple failed rebids, you can then immediately move down to 3*. Most of the time, though, it makes sense to also bid a lower $ amount if you move to a lower *-level.Would you like any assistance with this particular stay? What dates are you lookng for? Have you compared to hotwire rates?
musinggrai Posted July 3, 2009 Author Report Posted July 3, 2009 Hi Mike,Thanks for your help. I will start bidding again tomorrow morning with a lot more knowledge.I am trying for one night in Boston near the heart of the city on July 14th.I looked at hotwire, they had a rate of $122 for a 3 star, but a winning priceline bid of $105 for a 4 star now has me enticed, since I have seen it happen through this site. :)
thereuare Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 If you're new to re-bidding it's higher recommended to confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
musinggrai Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 I started bidding at $80 and added zones with lower * levels, while upping the bid $5 at a time, added Copley last, and was successful. Thanks GM mike and Theruare for your help with this! It is a much better result than when I tried on my own at PRICELINE!
AaronJB Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Congrats on your success!Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Excellent deal for this well-reviewed property, which is showing a $299 rate for these dates.Using the site's PRICELINE link is greatly appreciated.Enjoy your stay.
