cali notch Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hello, Going to a conference at the Pittsburgh convention center form 10/25-10/29. Trying to save my boss some money so using priceline. The conference rates are around $150 for the 3* hilton + double tree and $180 for the 4* westin ($210 for the omni and renaissance). I would like the 3* courtyard marriott which is also next to the convention center (no conference rates)Bidding for 2 rooms, 4 adults.3* started at 70->80->924* started at 80->90I am hoping that since the conference has blocks of rooms saved for the conference at the hilton and double tree that I have higher chances in securing the courtyard. The courtyard rates are $208.All of the posted 4* hotels also have blocks held for the conference...so chances for getting a 4* for $100 may be slim.Suggestions?
dahammer Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 you may want to reserve a cancellable backup and check out HOTWIRE rates for this zone to see the other prices.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Rates look very high for your dates... how larget is the conference? What is your maximum bid at each star level? There are 3.5* hotels offered in the Downtown zone as well, are you not bidding those? Is the $150/nite rate at the Hilton cancellable? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. cali notch Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 I tried a rebid for the 3* at $95, was asked to increase my bid by $22.Opted out. I will give my 4* a rebid later today. The conference is huge, take up the entire convention center. Last year they filled all of the hilton, westin, doubletree, and omni blocks and they had to expand to other hotels.
cali notch Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 I ended up just reserving my room with the conference, since I am traveling with colleagues I need the ability to request a 2-double room. I read that with priceline room request are not always possible without additional charges. Thanks for the suggestions!
