msss Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I am staying at the Westin St. Francis on business for a few days starting on 7/13 at a $164 rate. I would like to stay there or nearby (within a short walk) with a Priceline or Hotwire rate for the preceding night, 7/12. I see that bids at the $69 rate have been successful before & after that date. Any bidding recommendations? And yes, I will use this site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE link. Thanks.
thereuare Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 With PRICELINE you can't target any specific hotel or area other than within the zone boundaries as defined by PRICELINE. Are you comfortable with a hotel anywhere within the boundaries of PRICELINE's Union Square East zone? What is your maximum bid and minimum star level for this nite of your stay?If you search HOTWIRE do any hotels offered in this area meet your budget and star rating criteria? If so you can try to identify them by comparing what is offered to the Hotwire Hotel List. We can confirm what you believe your seeing or help identify any properties which are not listed there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise acordingly. Colfax Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Westin's best rate is $224.25 on July 12.Grand Hyatt (the other 4* in USE zone) is $223.The $69 bids you've seen accepted were likely for dates when rates were lower than yours. (But maybe not.)Hotwire has a 4* in USE for $121. It looks like probably Grand Hyatt or Palomar.Priceline usually bets Hotwire on price so my suggestion would be to bid for a 4* in USE on Priceline, from about $70 to $100. Someone can suggest a more detailed strategy if you want. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
msss Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Thank you. I think I will restrict my bids to Priceline 4* locations in USE. I started bidding this evening at $60 (rejected, as I expected) & will increase my bids every 24 hours until I reach my upper limit.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Are you using your re-bid zones? When bidding at the 4* level you have FOUR such re-bid zones, which is discussed in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. If you're not familair with re-bidding it's strongly recommended you ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones before bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. msss Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Yes, I used the 4 re-bid zones. My last rejected bid was $74. I'll try again tomorrow evening. Thanks.
Colfax Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 3.5* in USE is another option if you don't win a 4* up to your limit. Sir Francis Drake is the only known 3.5* in USE and it's also close to the Westin.
msss Posted June 25, 2009 Author Report Posted June 25, 2009 Thanks for the help. I ended up with the Westin St. Francis for $89.
thereuare Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received a great deal and one of the hotels you were hoping for.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
