quigs Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 We're new to Proceline & to this forum. We are looking for 2 rooms for 10/10 - 10/12 in Fisherman's Wharf. We saw another post that someone got the Sheraton for 11/5 - 11/8 for 73 a night which is also a 3.5, so we were using this as a comparision. We bid 70, then 80, then 90, then 100 by adding additional areas as explained on this board. They were all declined. We're just looking for advice to see if we are way off and if it may make a difference to try again tomorrow with the same amounts. Also, we were thinking of going down to the 3 star level and were looking for suggestions on a bid amount for this as well.
Gallus50 Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Please read FAQs, then ask for an informed bidding strategy. Hotel prices are date specific; the fact that someone got a price in November for FW doesn't mean anything for your situation. November is also usually a low travel month, while Sept/Oct are busy in SF. Check the prices for your potential hotels on those dates, look at the calendar of wins on this board, learn about free rebids, and then thereuare or someone can provide you with a specific bidding strategy if you don't come up with one on your own. The SF convention checker from the tourist board may be helpful, too. If there's a convention in town, hotels may be busier and more selective than usual. Good luck.
Colfax Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, quigs.I don't know what's happening in SF those dates but hotel rates are high in FW, and also high downtown.Sheraton FW $314Hyatt FW $258Holiday Inn Express FW $256Holiday Inn FW $237Your dates are Saturday and Sunday nights. I thought this might be a Saturday night problem but checking the days singly rates are about the same on Saturday and Sunday.Hotwire has a 3.5* in FW for $176 (looks like Hyatt) and a 3* in FW for $115 (looks like Holiday Inn).My feeling is that rates will probably come down between now and October, but I can't guarantee that. If you're not in a hurry I'd keep trying in the $75-100 range for a 3.5* once a week or so now. If you want to secure something now that $115 for the 3* Holiday Inn FW looks like the best current value in FW area, given prevailing rates, about half off retail.Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Laundry, HighspeedPriceline usually beats Hotwire on price. If the Holiday Inn is acceptable you can probably win a 3* on PRICELINE for less than $115. You might win the Best Western Tuscan too, which is also rated 3*. I'd suggest trying $65 for a 3*. Then add your one free rebid (Marina-Lombard) at $75. Then wait 24 hours and try $80 and $90 for 3*.Please let us know what you decide and please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links if you purchase.

quigs Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks for all of your help l& suggestions! I tried the outlined 3 star bidding strategy for 65 & then 75 for the 3*, but they were declined. We're locked into traveling these dates as we are spending the two days before a cruise in SF & we have already booked the cruise & the flights. So, we also can't risk not getting a room altogether. We wanted to keep it under $120 per night if possible. Also, we just realized that monday is Columbus Day. I couldnt find any scheduled events in San Fran, but perhap the holiday weeked is increasing the demand. We were thinking we'd try the 110 3.5 star FW first, then add the 3 star level and drop the bid to 85. Does the site allow you to do this? Thanks again.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 If i'm understanding your correct, you should be able to bid as you propose, but let's take it one step at a time first...You want to bid for a 3.5* up to $110?At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3.5* Fishermans Wharf...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Fishermans Wharf and re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Fishermans Wharf and re-bid zone3...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* Fishermans Wharf and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115Any questions feel free to ask. If you're rejected post back and we'll revise to try for a 3* property. You can stop at $110 if you'd like but i went up to $115 in case you wanted to try the extra $5.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.EDIT to ADD: if you're interested in the Union Square East zone HOTWIRE has a a 3.5* rated property for $89/nite with: Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Business Center, High-speed Internet Access which appears to be a match for the Galleria Park and gets great reviews... perhaps you could make this work for your plans? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
