chucklingstarfish Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 Hello Again,After my fabulous success in Boston I'm back again looking for my hotel in San Fran... Due to its central location is Union Square a good place to base yourself? I'm travelling alone so don't want to wander into any unsafe areas by accident... Incidentally does it make it more or less expensive (usually) in the hotwire searches if you put one person or 2 (even though travelling alone)? So the the details are:Dates: In 21 July Out 25 July4* $85 Union Square WestAmenities: Fitness Center / Restaurant(s) / Business Center / High-speed Internet Access 3.5* $78 Union Square EastAmenities: Fitness Center / Restaurant(s) / Business Center / High-speed Internet Access 3.5* $83 Union Square WestAmenities: Fitness Center / Restaurant(s) / Business Center / High-speed Internet Access 3* $76 Union Square EastAmenities: Boutique Hotel / Fitness Center / Business Center / High-speed Internet Access Thank you so much again for your help - very much appreciated! Next stop Honolulu... :)
Colfax Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 Incidentally does it make it more or less expensive (usually) in the hotwire searches if you put one person or 2 (even though travelling alone)?I won't say "Never" but in my experience the Hotwire price has been the same searching on one person or two. Either search guarantees a room with one bed.Due to its central location is Union Square a good place to base yourself? I'm travelling alone so don't want to wander into any unsafe areas by accident...Union Square is an excellent base. Very central; close to shopping, restaurants, theater, and BART. The Tenderloin is a rougher area just west of Union Square. You can't avoid the Tenderloin completely, but staying in USE gives an extra block of "buffer" vs staying in USW. All of Union Square is busy and populated though, day and night, and taking the normal precautions you'd take in any large city you shouldn't anticipate problems staying in either zone.Unless you're trying to win a particular hotel my suggestion would be to bid for a 4* in USE on PRICELINE. Priceline usually beats HOTWIRE on price. The Westin St Francis and Grand Hyatt are the only known 4*'s in USE, and I think you'd be happy at either.Someone can provide a PRICELINE bidding strategy if you want. Or if you prefer sticking with HOTWIRE let us know and someone will try to identify the hotels. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links when you purcahse.
