shaz_sta Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Hi All!!!I accidently stumbled across this site on my attempt to plan my US trip! Had a look at the posts etc and got a general idea of how it all works... THANKS!Couple of questions:1 - Is there a limit (min/max) as to how many nights you can book using the "make your own price" function on priceline? 2 - When do you find out what hotel etc you have won?I'm heading to San Fran on Sept 11 until Sept 20 and require acommodation then... I was thinking of booking a hostel (private room) and I found one that was $100 a night, however looking at some of the posts, people seem to have gotten a hotel room for less than that? I understand that the states have some kind of tax that you have to pay when you stay in a hostel - does the same apply to a hotel? if so, is this included in that price? Also, i'll be in NYC from 1 Oct - 14 Oct and needed to book acommodation for that as well :) so I was wondering if my bidding will be affected by the amount of nights i choose or if there are limitations to the amount of nights you can opt to stay at a place? Will be in Canada from 20sept - 1 Oct but acommodation for that is sorted. The staring system that is used in US is different to the ones used in Australia... For instance a 3 star hotel is the average and a 5 star is top notch. What is the average star rating in the states? Does anyone have a minimum star rating recommendation? Really excited about the big trip but nervous as i've never been there and no idea how to get around the place or what parts are decent etc etc. One last question haha the different areas in NYC, confuse the crap out of me! Any recommendations of which areas to select =?So any help is appreciated!!! Thanks everyone! :)
Colfax Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, shaz_sta.1 - Is there a limit (min/max) as to how many nights you can book using the "make your own price" function on priceline? One night minimum. 21 night maximum.2 - When do you find out what hotel etc you have won? You'll find out if your bid was accepted or rejected as fast as PRICELINE's computer can process your bid---usually less than 60 seconds.Looking forward things will work smoothest if you start two new threads---one for the SF leg of your stay and another for your New York dates. We'll answer your other city-specific questions (zones, quality levels, etc) in those new threads.
shaz_sta Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 Scored myself the Grand Hyatt at Fishermans Wharf for $80 a night (11/09/09 - 15/09/09) - Cheering!
thereuare Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing it with the board.Your original topic title stated: 4* Grand Hyatt Fishermans Wharf but there are no 4* hotels in the Fishermans Wharf zone nor is there a Grand Hyatt (there is, however, a Hyatt Regency) so i'm thinking perhaps you won the 4* Grand Hyatt in the Union Square East zone?? Can you please confirm/clarify.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
