Hi there

I'm trying to get a good deal on a central Rome hotel for one-night post-cruise on October 3. Hotwire is showing a 4* for $159 with complimentary breakfast, business center and internet access. It gets 4/5 on tripadvisor based on 180+ reviews.

Sounds appealing but any idea what it is?

The Golden Tulip Ambra Palace has previously been reported at this star level and wtih this amenity combination, and is consistent with the Tripadvisor inforation you've listed, so that would be my best guess.

My personal advice would be to pass. I'm on the hunt for a Friday & Saturday stay in early August and they have a base prepay rate of 114 Euros per night out the door (meaning including taxes and crap). That works out to ~ $161.

The base right now for the hotel for the day you need it is 152 Euros. I got to imagine, compared to the lower rate that I'm getting for August, your rate for when you need will come down as we get somewhat closer to October.

Thanks for the help. Prices stayed high for the dates I wanted. However I lucked out with a top-rated B&B that I learned about through Tripadvisor for 89 Euros/night in a better neighbourhood and that worked out fine.

cheffip, can you say what the B&B is?

Yes, it's called "At your place" and is currently #1 on Tripadvisor. It's really close to the Vatican and 15- 20 minutes walk to most of the famous sites. Modern, clean rooms and the owner, Luca is terrific...really helpful. Includes a very nice breakfast with terrific cappucino. :)

Wow this sounds great. I also am going to Rome and was suggested this place by a friend. I may have to seriously consider this one!
