luvsuggs Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Hi, I'm new to Priceline bidding, and I need some help bidding on Priceline for the July 4th weekend.Looking for a 4* Union Square East, SF hotelHoping for the Westin St. Francis HotelDates: Thursday, 7/2 to Sunday, 7/5(or I could adjust the dates to Fri, 7/3 to Mon, 7/6) if that would give me a better rateI already tried bidding from$65 up to $85 and Priceline has already rejected my bids with all the free re-bids.I saw the earlier post from someone who won the Westin St. Francis on the exact same dates (7/3 to 7/6) for $75, but I wasn't able to win that bid!!Do the rates on Priceline fluctuate day to day? Can I try rebidding the same bid after 24 hours, or will that matter?I don't understand why they're not even accepting my highest bid, when they already accepted someone else's lower bid.Can you please advise? I'll be happy at any 4* in the Union Square East area.thanks so much!
AaronJB Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Welcome to the site. Those dates are not quite the same, and PRICELINE rates are "date-specific". 7/2 could be giving you trouble, and if you are flexible and can try 7/3-6, then you can try bidding for those dates for $75.Please use the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase.
luvsuggs Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 I tried bidding on with the "easier dates," Fri, 7/3 to Mon, 7/6 for a 4* USE hotel, but it still won't take my $75 offer and in fact, I went up to $80 with my free re-bids and it still was rejected. How can someone else win a 4* USE hotel for $75 on the exact same dates (7/3 to 7/6/09), but then I can't win the same bid? Should I try again on another day, or is it pointless?
thereuare Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 This is the San Francisco Priceline Win you're refering to and it was made over 3 weeks ago...The hotel may have only had a limited nubmer of rooms they offered for those nites and have since sold them all OR could have seen an increase in hotel direct bookings and now prefer to hold onto rooms in an attempt to sell them on their own (at full price) vs. at deep discounts thru the opaque suppliers, so have pulled back inventory that was previously offered for these dates, or a variety of other reasons.Room pricing is dynamic and changes all the time based upon supply/demand factors and time before the stay... just like you can see 'regular' hotel rates change from one day to the next. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. luvsuggs Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks so much for the advice. I definitely used the PRICELINE link from this website, and I will continue to do so in the future. I guess I'll bid in another district....either that, or I'll wait until the time is closer before I bid again. This website is awesome, and I really appreciate all the posted winning bids and advice! Keep up the good work!

Colfax Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 For 7/2-7/5 HOTWIRE has a 4* in USE for $103 that looks like the Westin St Francis. Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Highspeed, SpaPRICELINE usually beats HOTWIRE on price so you could be close at $80.Hotwire also has a 4* Nob Hill at $89. That looks like Mark Hopkins.
luvsuggs Posted May 21, 2009 Author Report Posted May 21, 2009 Thanks so much for all the advice, Colfax, thereuare, & AaronJB! I really appreciate it! I decided to just bid a little bit more in a different district, so I could make sure the room was nicer than the ones I had read about at the Westin St. Francis. It seems like the Westin St. Francis doesn't treat Priceline customers too well, and I didn't want to risk getting a Double Bed in a crappy section of the hotel, so I decided to bid on YOUR PRICELINE link.....From $70 to finally a winning bid of $89 in the Financial/Embarcadero area for a 4* Hotel.I got the Le Meridien for $89 from 7/2 to 7/5! Yay!You're right---it was that Thursday bid, 7/2 which threw everything off, but I really needed to get there on Thurs. The price is higher than what I originally wanted, but at least this ensures a nicer room and the reviews for Le Meridien are awesome! Thanks again for all the help! I will continue to keep using the links from this website for HOTWIRE and PRICELINE! :)
thereuare Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to hear you were flexible in changing your zone to ensure you received a hotel that you would be happy with. While more than you original set out to spend, this is nearly $100 per nite off of a conventionally booked room for this nite, so a very nice deal!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
