PringlesInVic Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 Hey,This is my first time using Priceline. I have found all the tips on this forum very useful. But I am still unsuccessful with my bidding. This is what I want:4* Seattle, WA (Downtown-Pike Place)8/15/09 - 8/16/092 roomsI went to PRICELINE using the forum link.I want the Westin so I have been selecting Area 10 (Downtown-Pike Place) and bid starting at $75Then after being rejected, I added another zone and bid $80, still rejectedThen added another zone, and bid $85. Still nothing. I have been trying all week, and have just recently been offered a counter offer of $132/nightHowever I declined feeling that it was very high, considering there are people on the forum getting the Westin for $70-90 within weeks of my visit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WillTravel Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 The difference is that you are going in very high season, so the low prices people get now, or even for June or July, may not relate to what you pay in August. To make matters worse, you are bidding for a Saturday night. It is possible the price will decline, but it may not. What is HOTWIRE offering for that night?
thereuare Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! To add to what WillTravel has said above, i agree that it's high season (cruise ships are in town which brings in extra demans and guests stay over nite before their Sunday depatures and those who disembarked on Saturday may stay in town a few nites nites as well), but a reminder that you're not just bidding on the Westin... you can receive any 4* hotel in the boundaries of the zone.If you're trying to target, or avoid, a specific hotel in the zone HOTWIRE can often be a better option as you can sometimes take an educated guess as to what you may received based upon the amenities shown before your purchase (although it will cost you a little more than PRICELINE)What is your maximum budget for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. PringlesInVic Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks for the replies. I due realize that I am travelling at a peak time, and a Saturday at that. I did see another post for someone getting the Westin t weeks later than my trip for $75 a night. And I am not specifically trying to get the Westin, it seems to be the hotel that people are getting in that zone, that is all. All the 4*+ hotels in the area look great and any will do. Priceline showed a price of $129/night for one of the hotels in that zone, so bidding more than an advertised price seemed a little off to me. Hotwire gave me a price of $109 per room per night. Not bad, I'll have a look at the Hotwire forum to see what hotels people are getting. I don't really have a budget, just want to save as much money as possible. I'll keep trying.
