Hi

I'm looking at the possibility of using PRICELINE / HOTWIRE to try and get a room in NYC for me and a friend. Ideally we'd like a twin room ( i know this can be an issue on priceline) - any tips on how to get one/get a hotel with a twin option?

We're looking for a twin room for sept 10th - 14th (4 nights) and sept 20th-22nd (2 nights) ideally 4*...And if possible times square/south central park areas (stayed in the empire state area last time but would prefer to be a few blocks further north!)

What sort of price do you think is reasonable? Am i better off with PRICELINE or HOTWIRE? And i guess the age old issue - do i just have to wait till nearer the time to try and get a decent deal?

Apologies if i have posted in the wrong place or asked dumb questions!

thanks

There's no tips or ways around this: two beds are not guaranteed (twin or otherwise), and while you may be able to work something out with the hotel, they have the right to say no. A good example is yesterday, when another poster got the Grand Hyatt and tried to call regarding two beds. The hotel had rooms with two beds, the two bed room was priced the same regular rate as a room with one bed, but they refused to change the booking.

Waiting to see if rates drop is like Vegas - if you bet wrong and traffic increases for your dates, you'll be out of luck as rates head higher and you haven't booked a room. My advice is to search for the best deal you can find at this time.

PRICELINE and HOTWIRE are two differing services - HOTWIRE allows one to get a sense of what hotels may be showing, but is generally somewhat more expensive. PRICELINE does not give you an idea of what hotels are available, and is cheaper.

"TWIN ROOM" - what is it exactly that you need... a room with two beds? (everyone's definition of 'twin room', double/double, etc is different, so what exactly is it that you're looking for from this stay)

if you need two beds, you should try HOTWIRE and search for 3 or 4 to a room, this way the hotel will have to provide a room with two beds or at least one bed and a pull out sofa bed or a roll-away cot.
