Jesena Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 Hi,I need some help with PRICELINE:I used HOTWIRE a few times and I am familiar with it, but I want to use PRICELINE for my next booking. I read a lot of articles here and I guess I unterstand the principles of bidding there. I just have a question about the bidding amount and the hotel I get. I had a look at the hotel list and what other users paid for the different hotels. (I know there could be others)Let's say, there is hotel A and B with an average amount of $80 and hotel Y and Z in the same star ranking with an average of $100. Well, I looked at the hotels and would like to have the Y or Z Hotel. Just because I like the location or amenities there... Do I have better chances in getting one of the other hotels when I'm bitting $100? Or are then the others just happy with my $20 more? I'm just not sure, priceline itself should be happy to sell the more expensive rooms when someone is acutally bidding that much money, right? Is there someone who knows about this and can help me? I just don't want to end up paying more, just because I didn't ask that question here on the forum. Thanks,Jesena :)
dahammer Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 Welcome!your question is covered in this topic: Don't bid higher for a specific hotelPRICELINE does not "own" any inventory, all they do is match up sellers with buyers. Hotels load room inventory (often at multiple price points) into the PRICELINE system and buyers bid on that inventory. If you must stay at a specific hotel because of a meeting or event, then book directly with that hotel (using the Linkson the board would be nice!). But, if you want to stay in a 3 or 4 star property for the price of a Motel 6, bidding is the way to go.Let us know the zone you are considering and if you need a bidding strategy.
Jesena Posted April 25, 2009 Author Report Posted April 25, 2009 A bidding strategy would be awesome :-), especially for my first bidding. We would like to go to Vancouver (Downtown if possible), 4* and from the 05/22 to 05/25 (I know the holiday weekend, but I hope to get a good deal for us). Thanks in advance :) Jesena
thereuare Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 We woudln't want to suggest a strategy that went higher than you were willing to pay... what is your maximum bid for a 4* hotel in the Downtown zone? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Jesena Posted April 25, 2009 Author Report Posted April 25, 2009 Vancouver Hyatt Regency, first bid accepted.May 22 for 3 night $65 US plus tax. I am using PRICELINE for the first time and I am quite happy with my purchase. Thanks for all the information on the priceline-topic. Without that, would have tried a higher rate. I hope and guess that this rate is a good deal. :)
thereuare Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you're happy with the results and that the board was helpful with your first PRICELINE experience. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
