Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Anchorage Sheraton

I bid $60 for a 3* in Anchorage, AK knowing that the Hilton was the only hotel in this category (I am attending a conference at this hotel).

My first bid was accepted, but they "upgraded" me to the 3.5* Sheraton, which is over 12 blocks away! Arghhh!!! I didn't know this was even possible!

I know it may sound odd to be angry over being "upgraded", but honestly these two hotels are pretty similar as far as I can tell.

Is it possible that I overbid on the Hilton enough that the Sheraton got my win instead? I have had other winning bids at the Sheraton as low as $58, but wanted to play it safe as this is a same-day reservation.

I'm sure it'll be a nice hotel ... I just thought I was going to be able to outsmart the system. Guess I'm not that smart!

Sorry to hear you're disappionted with your 'ugprade'...

The star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept and PRICELINE will always look at higher rated hotels first to see if they can upgrade your accomodations. Depending upon the size of the conference, it's possible that occupancy at the Hilton was so high that they didn't offer any inventory to the opaque suppliers (or the rate they offered them was not discounted much) and the 3.5* rate at the Sheraton was lower than the best rate for a 3* hotel in this zone... so not necessarily indicative of an overbid.

Hope you can make this work for your plans and 12 blocks doesn't sound to far... perhaps you can walk it or an inexpensive cab ride.
