Priceline Hotel: Advice needed

I am driving from Chicago to Boston in mid-May. Since it is not likely I will drive such long distance in the near future, I would like to take advantage of it to spend ~ half day visiting the Niagara Falls (American side) . So here is my plan:

1st day, Chicago - Niagara Falls (stay at some hotel close to the Falls).

2nd day, visit the Falls (probably most of the daytime), then drive west (2-3 hours) to a hotel (I am thinking some place at Syracuse).

3rd day, keep driving to Boston.

I have two questions:

1. Does this schedule sound reasonable? Is one day good enough for the Niagara Falls?

2. Could anyone recommend hotels (which area should I bid for, I do not mind driving around) for 1st & 2nd day? This is more a budget trip than a honeymoon.

Thanks!

I would think that the Falls could be done in a day.

To check your itinerary i'd start by going to Google Maps, click the "get directions" link, and then in the box click 'Add destination' which will allow you to enter a multi-destination trip... you will then be able to see the distance between each of the points you've selected to stop at along the way, as well as see other nearby cities on the map which you may use as alternatives.

Please also follow-up your San Luis Obispo and St John threads with whatever you end up doing for each stay.
