  1. Rochester downtown 3*, started with $40, was accepted. Online rate is $119 per night. Maybe someone else could save few bucks starting at a lower rate.
  2. I am driving from Chicago to Boston in mid-May. Since it is not likely I will drive such long distance in the near future, I would like to take advantage of it to spend ~ half day visiting the Niagara Falls (American side) . So here is my plan: 1st day, Chicago - Niagara Falls (stay at some hotel close to the Falls). 2nd day, visit the Falls (probably most of the daytime), then drive west (2-3 hours) to a hotel (I am thinking some place at Syracuse). 3rd day, keep driving to Boston. I have two questions: 1. Does this schedule sound reasonable? Is one day good enough for the Niagara Falls? 2. Could anyone recommend hotels (which area should I bid for, I do not mind driving around) for 1st & 2nd day? This is more a budget trip than a honeymoon. Thanks!
  3. Get through at the first bid. Surprised! Actually added 3 zones: Copley Square - Theatre District ; Quincy Market - Faneuil Hall - Financial District; Copley Square - Theatre District Also bid for 31/2*, was upgraded to the 4*. The price on the website is $180 +. I am going there for the MRS Fall meeting, and was expecting the hotel would be extremely expensive. However, now I really feel amazed to get this offer.
  4. I followed your advice, link to PRICELINE through the link, check the resort instead of 4* and finally got Marriott San Juan Resort And Stellaris Casino at $110. Check in Dec 10, check out Dec 13. I checked the hotel webpage for AAA member price is $174. It is a great deal. Thank you for the help. It is a great forum! Now I am getting thrilled for my trip!
  5. Thank you for the response. I check the priceline for Puerto Rico, It has six zones: 1. Cabo Rojo 2. Dorado 3. Mayaguez - Isabela 4. Ponce - Guanica 5. Rio Grande - Humacao 6. San Juan The hotels associated are: Zone1 - 1&2*, Zone2 - 2,2.5&3*, Zone3 - 1-3*, Zone 4 - 1&2*, Zone 5 - all levels, Zone 6 - all levels. So if I want to bid Zone 6 for a 31/2* or above, I can safely add Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 as re-bidding zones. If I need to lower the bid to 3*, I can only add Zone 1, 4 as re-bidding zones. Did I understand it right? My next question is what's the proper price I should start? Can I simply divide the price on the hotel webpage by half as the starting point?
  6. Now I am trying to bid a hotel room for San Juan from Dec10 to Dec 13. Though I will rent a car during this period, I prefer staying in San Juan. My budget for a 4* and up is $120. I can also live with a 3*, since I probably will not spend too much time in hotel. But from many reviews on tripadvisor, the 3* hotel there is shabby. I will be willing to pay up to $150 for the InterContinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino, since it is very highly recommended by my friend. However, I understand with priceline, you do not have the choice. I know this sounds fragmentary. I do have a headache looking for hotel in this area. Any advice on the bidding strategy will be really helpful. Like how to choose the re-bid zone, ect.
  7. Check-in: silkCheckInDate:Sun, Dec 14, 2008 Check-out: silkCheckOutnDate:Wed, Dec 17, 2008 $164 per night amenities are: Resort Beachfront Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Tennis Nearby Children's Activity Program Thanks a lot!
  8. Hotwire is showing a 3.5 star hotel in San Juan for Dec 11 to Dec 14 at $99. Icons are Near Beach, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurants, Business Center, Laundry Facilities and High-speed Internet. Please help identify. Thanks!
  9. I bid from $50-$58 for 3*, all failed. And I bid from $40, and finally got $45 for a 2.5*. The hotel is Hilton Garden Inn Chicago/Midway Airport 6530 S. Cicero Avenue, Bedford Park, Illinois, USA 60638 Tel: +1-708-496 2700 Fax: +1-708-496 8820 It has 24hr shuttle to the airport, which is the most important to me. The price on the webpage is $109. So I am very satisified with it.
  10. I tried $54, 3 star, Midway Airport, however failed. My maximum will be $60. I think I will just increase the bid $1-2 everyday, till I get it.
  11. Thanks for the comprehensive suggestion. I just noticed someone succesfully bid the 4 points at MDW for $55, also in March. It is perfect for my need. So I would like to take a little risk to bid through the priceline. I will post my bidding experience later.
  12. I finally booked Anchor Inn directly without using either hotwires or priceline, since the hotels around this area are pricy anyway. Here is the hotel information: Anchor Inn220 Beach Street Morro Bay , CA 93442 UNITED STATES 805-772-3333 One night stay is only ~ $50. The hotel is clean, though everything is old. Considering the price, I think it is a deal.
