AaronJB Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 Welcome to the site and thank you for posting your win.Keep in mind that rates are date specific. While others may have gotten cheaper rates for other dates, if your dates are busier, rates will be higher. If you were bidding less and it wasn't accepted, then there's nothing you can do differently. It's 24 hours since your last bid, I believe. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.
Colfax Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 i don't know what i've done wrong to not get it around $55 mark . Dates were 21st may - 24th.The Marriott is $169 for your dates, which is an average rate for that hotel.I suspect you were bidding a little early and that if you'd waited another week or two you might have gotten the Marriott in $50's or $60's. Sometimes Priceline requires patience.I've got to stay on from the 24th - 28th may now as well but can't seem to put any bids in whatsoever now - it has been 24hours since my original bid. Can anyone help with how I can get a cheaper 4star or 3.5 star next time round?I don't know what's happening Downtown those dates but Marriott is sold out three of four nights and the fourth night is $289. The $50's and $60's wins that you see Downtown are almost always at the Marriott. If Marriott's sold out you should be prepared to pay more than $50's.Have you searched your dates on HOTWIRE? Do you see any appealing options Downtown?
Colfax Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 And a footnote:From your bid history it looks like you jumped from 50 pounds to 61 pounds. (I don't know how to type the symbol for British pounds.)Translated to dollars that was a jump from $73.89 to $90.14.It's possible Sheraton's Priceline rate was $75, $80, or $85. For the best price you might bid up in smaller increments.
