macminigirl Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 New here. Any suggestions most welcome. Trip is for:San Diego (Coastal) 4/19-4/25 3.5* or 3* I am open to Del Mar and maybe Downtown.Found this forum after unsuccessfully bidding yesterday on PL starting at $53 and using 7 free rebids up to $68, all rejected. I understand after reading your links that I could have closed the window and proceeded to directly bid on a 3*. Thanks for that tip, now I understand. My quandry is that my Sun-Friday night stay might be too long for PL. Should I try a Sun-Thursday stay and then a single Friday elsewhere? Any thoughts appreciated. Wishing that I hadn't waited so long to get the jist of rebidding. Feeling a bit of time pressure .Thanks for looking.
macminigirl Posted April 13, 2009 Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 New to forum and wanting to ID hotel in San Diego off HotwireID 3* San Diego Sea World - Mission Bay - Shelter IslandListed for $49 per night 4/19-4/25 1 room, 2 adults and 2 kidsPool, restaurant, laundry and internetMany thanks. Great forum.
yellowdog Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Best guess for this hotel would be Holiday Inn (Mission Bay/Sea World)Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, and let us know how it goes.Yellowdog.
Colfax Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 If you're willing to split your five-night stay in two I think you can win something better than the Holiday Inn for less than the $68 you've bid for five nights together. I'll mention that the Holiday Inn Mission Bay/SeaWorld has exterior doors facing the parking lot, motel style. Some people like that setup and for others it's a deal killer.Feeling a bit of time pressure .Your trip is still five days off. In Priceline/Hotwire terms that's a lot of time. Don't worry that you won't get anything. If you're able to split your bid I suggest working on your first three nights first. That will relieve a lot of the pressure---knowing where you're going when you arrive. If 3.5* Coastal and 3.5* Del Mar are still your first choices I would bid as you already did in those zones, but for 3 or 4 nights, rather than 5.
macminigirl Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 Thanks for the reassurance and tip about splitting the stay 3/3 nights. I bid last night again using every strategy with a split to do 5 nights first. I was rejected for 3.5* up to $89 and for a 3* up to $76. My intuition was as you suggested, to split the trip in half, so that is confirmation on my next strategy. The Holiday Inn downtown on Hotwire looks like it would be too noisy for an extended stay, plus the $$ parking does not add up to much savings. Will post results.
AaronJB Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Good luck on your next round of bidding - please ask if you have any ?'s.
macminigirl Posted April 15, 2009 Author Report Posted April 15, 2009 Success! Bid tonight using the Better Bidding link to PRICELINE winning the Doubletree San Diego Del Mar, 3* for $56 for 4 nights from 4/19-4/23. This looks like a sweet hotel with free parking and good reviews for the price and sure makes me happy to only have to find another two night stay to complete our trip in San Diego. FYI, here is what I tried:Tried 3.5* at $55 with all 8 rebids, first with North County Coastal, then adding Del Mar up to $76 with no luck.Tried 3* at $51 North County Coastal, a free rebid at $56, then added Del Mar again at $56 and won. Thanks to you all on this board for the super friendly advice and welcome to this Seattle newbie. I think I might be hooked!

Colfax Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 Congratulations, macminigirl. It couldn't have worked out better.I'm not sure if you know about Add a Night. It's a feature that lets you to add additional nights to your reservation at the same hotel, possibly at a higher rate that the original nights. The higher rate is disclosed at the start and you can accept or reject the offer without cost.If you want to stay at the Doubletree five nights you can try Add a Night. There's a link on your acceptance page..Unless you have a need to be in Del Mar area the whole time I might try a different zone though, just for a variety. Two nights Downtown or in Coastal zone? If you want help with the other two nights please start a new thread. If you bid on your own please let us know what you get.
