Pfaffhp Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Hi,I tried to get a 4* Hotel at Boston Logan from the 3rd of July to the 4th of July at a rate <100$ and didn't get one. Most of the winning bids at th forum are 65 - 70$.What is a realistic rate?ThanksHans-Peter
yellowdog Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 Welcome to the board! How high have you bid for 4*?Rates are date sensitive so you can't look at old bids for your upcoming stay.Yellowdog.
AaronJB Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 HOTWIRE has a 4* at $165 in the Boston/Logan APT area for this date. However, oddly enough, there's actually a cheaper 4* in the Waterfront zone ($131) and a much cheaper 3.5* in the Boston Common-Theatre District zone ($88)There is also a 3* on HOTWIRE in the airport zone for $95.The 3.5* in the Boston Common-Theatre District or 3* Airport are options on HOTWIRE.How high have you bid in the airport area?

AaronJB Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I would really not bid any higher than that. If you're bidding $130 for a 4* and there are 4*'s for not much more than that ($179 is the reg rate for the Hilton and Hyatt, $165 on HOTWIRE), I'd stop as there's something amatter (no 4* inventory?)Plus, as mentioned, at that point there's a 4* in the Waterfront area for $131 on HOTWIRE (which would appear to be a match for the Westin Waterfront.) Or, if you don't mind staying further out, there's the $88 3.5* in the Boston Common-Theatre District area (which would appear to be a possible match for the Radisson.) There may also be more PRICELINE inventory available in the downtown Boston area (although if you start bidding for downtown Boston, I'd start back at a much lower price and work higher.)Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start your purchase.

Liset Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 I frequently stay at Logan through PRICELINE. While it's only one person's experience, I have never had a successful bid more than a few weeks out. I've heard and my experiences makes me suspect that it's true that the Logan Hyatt and Hilton don't release inventory before 30 days out. If the hotels' direct rates are $179, this is rather low for both the Hilton and Hyatt and I wouldn't think the problem is lack of inventory, but rather one of timing.FYI, several hotels listed in the Logan zone are not on the airport property itself. They are several miles away and offer shuttle service. I guess this wouldn't be a problem if you only wanted a bed to sleep in the night before, but they don't offer convenient access into the city.To guarantee being at Logan I always stick with the 4* rating, guaranteeing either the Hilton or Hyatt. My personal prefence only, but I'd consider a waterfront or quincy market/financial district hotel over a lower rated Logan. Both zones offer easy commutes to Logan and you'd spend the evening before in a far nicer area.
Pfaffhp Posted June 4, 2009 Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 Today i got the Hilton Logan Airport for 75 $, it seems that its better to wait for bidding until the last month before the planned date.
thereuare Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your results with the board.Glad to see wiating it out worked for you this time... but there are times when it doesn't and which it pays to book earlier. There is no set rule in this regard, but for a further discussion you can see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Can you please add a reply to this confirming that this property is still 4* rated by PRICELINE.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
