rickflorida Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks thereuare!I'm definitely will be back and request you guys input before buying( bidding) ider HOTWIRE or PRICELINE for this trip.I'm hoping the Residence Inn DT West will show up (ID) on HOTWIRE so I can book it if the price is right but regardless I want to be Central for this Vacation to Toronto. My dates tentatively are June 2/8. BTW, the feature that shows latest wins for HW or PL is just GREAT!
thereuare Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Not sure if you're fering to the 'recent wins' links in the Priceline Maps or the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins, but either way, glad you like 'em :)We have some new things coming in the next few months too! <stay tuned> :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
rickflorida Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 Hello everyone!I'm still planning my stay in Toronto for June 6/2 to 6/8 this year with my Son.I know that Hotwire is listing what it seems to be the Sheraton Centre for around $86 plus tax/fees.I'm assuming I can get a better deal using Priceline and maybe you could help me with an strategy. I would like to be Downtown West and pay around $70 per night. (not sure about the actual rates for that period..)In a note: I have a Friends and Family Reservation with the Marriott (Residence Inn - Entertainment District) that rate is C$145 plus Tax per night for 6 nights( for the Suite w Breakfast included). I can cancel that up to one day before. I'm hoping to get a better price in a comparable property using this site. Thanks for your help!Rick
AaronJB Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 I don't believe PRICELINE splits it into downtown West like HOTWIRE does. I'm not familiar with Toronto areas, though. Personally, given the kind of rates that have been had via PRICELINE and the amount of time you have until your stay, I'd try to lowball an offer and see if any hotels are willing to accept. I'd start bidding for a 4* in the downtown zone in Toronto for $50, which - based upon the rates showing - has a chance of being accepted. If not accepted, I'd try again at $55, then $60. I can't imagine it will take much more than $60.Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start your purchases.

Thanks for your input Aaron.I've been keeping an eye on the Priceline wins for Downtown Toronto and see people getting around $50 for a 4* but I'm not sure if would apply to the first week of June..Should I try bidding now or wait a bit longer and see what people would be getting when is close by June? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 I'd start now, and while $50 is not extremely likely, I think it's not out of the question. If you bid $50 and it wasn't accepted, at least you can say you tried. If it is accepted, fantastic deal.
dc3 Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 We use Priceline almost every week for downtown Toronto. We always start with 3.5* because these are fine hotels at $40-45 and work up as high as $60, which leads to an upgrade to 4*. Most wins are Sheraton Centre or Westin Harbour Castle but others can appear, such as Renaissance, Delta Chelsea, King Edward, Intercontinental. Unless there is an event, $45 usually works. Especially if you don't do it too far in advance.
