Colfax Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 $7 was rejected.$16.00 rental + $16.40 tax/fee = $39.84Note that tax/fee is more than the car rental! :) These are the last two days of a four day rental. I split my bid because Tues/Weds rates are much higher than Thurs/Fri, and I'm able to go to the airport on Thursday to switch out cars. For Tues/Weds Hotwire's compact is $59.95. For Thurs/Fri it's only $12.95. Before splitting I bid the four nights together, up to $25 for Midsize and Compact. I'm still working on Tues/Weds. So far I've bid as high as $38 for every car class from SUV to Economy. Will update when I get something.Winning bid made via the BetterBidding PRICELINE link.
Colfax Posted April 5, 2009 Author Report Posted April 5, 2009 $16.00 rental + $16.40 tax/fee = $39.84NOT!$16.00 + $16.40 = $32.40$39.84 was Priceline's "Lowest Published Price". I copied the wrong line. :)
thereuare Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 I'm still working on Tues/Weds. So far I've bid as high as $38 for every car class from SUV to Economy.WOW! $8 vs. $38+ ... a good example of how rates, for both hotels and car rentals, can be very dates specific (and in this example likely weekend vs. midweek)Thanks for the post and using our PRICELINE link for your bidding.Hope you're doing well. Colfax Posted April 6, 2009 Author Report Posted April 6, 2009 Still working on 4/7-4/9.Today PRICELINE rejected $42 for every car class from SUV to Economy.Since yesterday HOTWIRE's Compact has jumped from $59.95 to $68.95.Lowest available Compact rates are $46.99 from Payless or $59.49 from Thrifty. I prefer dealing with one of the "Big Five" though, of which Alamo is the cheapest at $70.90. National, Hertz, and Avis are all $110-120/day for a Compact, and $300+ with taxes and fees!! :)
Colfax Posted April 8, 2009 Author Report Posted April 8, 2009 Rejected up to $45 on Priceline for every car class from SUV to Economy. This is a Hall of Fame example of rates being date sensitive. I won Thu/Fri for $8, but $45 wasn't enough for Tu/We.I was planning to rent from one of Enterprise's off airport locations, for $36.95/day. (The same car was $71/day rented from Enterprise at the airport.)The night before my trip I found a "North Central Special" from Dollar. Midsize cars are $31.99/day in select Midwest cities thru May 16.Deal is good in the following cities:Cincinatti, OH Dayton, OH Des Moines, IA Detroit, MI Kansas City, MO Chicago, IL Madison, WI Milwaukee, WI Louisville, KY Minneapolis, MNDollar is a BetterBidding affiliate and I booked thru the Dollar link.
